Discussion: Kim Davis: I Can't Resign Because I'll 'Lose My Voice' (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #240949

No, Kim, you refuse to resign because you’ll lose your cushy government benefits that you most likely would not get in another job.

NOW I get it… she’ll have to give up her 15 minutes of ‘fame’…

Yes, getting a real Thomas More vibe off this one.

“If I resign I lose my voice,” Davis said. “Why should I have to quit a job that I love, that I’m good at? I’ve been a county employee and served the public well for over 26 years before I got elected. It just comes back to, they can accommodate for all sorts of other issues, and we ask for one simple accommodation, and we cannot receive it.”

The essence of this woman’s job as a public servant is to issue licenses in accordance with the laws of this land, not in accordance with what she thinks the laws should be. Her “accommodation” is a salary and benefits for doing her job properly. Also the satisfaction of serving the law-abiding citizens of her state. If she doesn’t want to do her job, she can receive other accommodations, in the federal lockup.

Wow, talk about getting bad advice from her Liberty U attorneys! Letting her go on the show to express contempt for the court order is beyond stupid. I’ll venture they approved her appearance and even egged her on to do so. Amazed the attorneys would do so as they risk a court sanction and potential loss of the ability to practice law in her state!

Foolish, indeed…unless she really does want martyrdom via another jail sentence.

“I’ve been a county employee and served the public well for over 26 years before I got elected.”

Here’s the thing, Kim: by not issuing licences to people who are legally entitled to get married, you are not serving the public. Quit accepting a salary for a job you won’t do.

Money is speech ya know. And she gets $80,000.00 a year for being silly.

Kimmi, the emphasis in County Clerk is on the Clerk part. You are paid to issue permits, licenses and other legal paperwork.

“I’ll lose my voice.”

Nonsense. The rw media are fawning all over her.

I love the sound of self-indulgent bigotry in the morning.

That needs to be said directly to her face. Not her lawyers, not in a letter.

If she had simply let those under her to issue the licenses, she could have stuck by her principles and still did her job. When she didn’t allow those UNDER her to issue the licenses either, then she has lost that privilege. At this point, she has simply become an asshole.

The ACLU has filed a complaint that she is disobeying the court’s order. This can be used as evidence to support that allegation.

“Why should I have to quit a job that I love, that I’m good at?”

uh, no. by definition, if you refuse to do your job, you are the exact opposite of “good at” it.

Dear TPM, please take photos of that woman off your main page. It makes me ill in the morning. Thanks. :confounded:

Indeed - she’s really got only four more years to go to a full pension, based on her salary in her last three years of service (doubtless her highest).

Your voice isn’t more important than mine. Quit and go on twitter.

“If I resign, I’ll lose my voice.”

I’ve heard of rough HR exit interviews in my time, but removing vocal chords is a new one.

What we need now is a real Thomas Cromwell to this More-like ‘martydom’…

The problem is you are not doing your job now. You want an accommodation that means you can use your belief to not do your job and keep your job. And you have no right to be in office.
