Discussion: Key Republican: Obama's New Clemency Initiative Proves He's Lawless

Discussion for article #221928

Goodlatte wants to be Darrell Issa, but doesn’t have the inherent dickishness. (He does, however, have “teh stoopid” down pat) That said, he’s also following the “Obama is lawless” meme that (I’m betting) Teahadists will use to try and impeach Obama if the GOTP takes back the Senate this November. (Hey, what’s life without a dream, right?)

Never mind that Obama has granted far fewer pardons that W Bush or Ronald Reagan, who was the king of “lawless” pardons in the modern age. History doesn’t matter to these dopes any more than facts do.

Republicans are all over the map. That wasn’t the problem with the McCain and Romney campaigns. It was a symptom.

The way this President follows the law is totally lawless! If I understand the meaning of that word!

If you didn’t see this one coming then you have not been paying attention.

Repugnicans make the very best telephone CSRs. They memorize their scripts word for word and do not deviate under any circumstances.

Good afternoon, my name is Kathy, and how may I provide you with excellent service today?

Well, Kathy, I have this painful rash on my testicles.

Oh, I’m terribly sorry to hear that sir. Which one of our store did you buy them from?

hope they do impeach him you will never see a republican president get off easy if the demowimps control the house and senate.
the word crimes and misdemeanors will mean nothing any more.

If Goodlatte is a lawyer, he needs to be immediately disbarred – for both incompetence and moral turpitude.

What a dishonest piece of &)(&!

Lawless? I don’t understand. I thought if we just surrounded ourselves with an armed militia and refused to acknowledge the existence of the federal government, then laws didn’t matter.

Can someone please explain how this whole ‘law and order’ thing works in Republican circles nowadays? Thanks.

The President…shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.

U.S. Const., Art. II, Sec. 2, Cl. 1

I just can’t figure out if these imbeciles don’t understand that the Constitution is the law and that the exercise of a power very explicitly granted by the Constitution is thus inherently lawful, or whether it’s just a case of them having their own double secret Constitution in which the powers conferred by Article II change depending on who’s in the White House.

There you go again throwing out facts against minds that are impervious to facts, reality and the truth.

Oh, I dunno, groovie… “Crimes” still means something. Like Iraq, WMD, yellow cake, mission accomplished. And I’d say The Cheney administration got off pretty easy, dontcha think? Or is that one o’ them unknown unknowns. :-7

Mike Lee, yes the Mike Lee who is a whackadoo Tea Partier, actually supports this clemency program. Goodlatte needs to watch out before he steps on too many toes in his own party.

What insensate right-wing drivel.

Nothing the President has done since his election rises to the level of impeachable offenses.

The US Constitution grants the President certain express powers, and among these, the power to pardon is among the powers with the least limits.

“The President…shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment.”

You should really try grounding your comments in reality.
Change is good for you.

It’s wearing on me too. It really is. But this thing right here is basically an open declaration that the White House has given up on them. That it’s realized that when the other side meets every overture, every action, and every policy proposal, no matter how benign and uncontroversial, with unrelenting hysterical massive resistance, no matter how absurd it makes them look, one of the consequences is that it gives the White House greater freedom of action. When you make it clear that everything you do pisses someone off, you take concern over whether something will piss you off off the table in that person’s decision-making process.

And notice how no one in the Beltway Press Corpse (except presumably Ron Fournier) is weeping bitter concern troll tears of bipartisan concern. Even they seem to have gotten the message.

“Lawless” is the new “uppity”.

Whatever this President’s lawlessness exists, it doesn’t come close to an administration sending thousands of Americans in to harms way for a lie. The Gutless On Purpose party still has the gold standard of Presidential Lawlessness…both domestic (Nixon) and foreign (W).
