Discussion: Key GOP Chair Is Slowly Getting His Way On Obamacare

" he wanted to give states the ability to set their own standards on Medicaid and what counts as health insurance."

Great, so the governor of Mississippi will decide what is proper health insurance? Expect a lot of southern corpses on the horizon.

I am sure Greg Abbott, who is readying himself to run for the Precidentsy in 2020, already has a plan for Texas. It will be called the Texas Miracle Plan. The only problem is the wall along the border with Mexico, since the plan will rely on the ability of poor people to cross the river to get the care that is either unaffordable or unavailable in the state, especially for women’s bodies.

The ACA actually gives states a lot of latitude in running their programs, and they can apply to the feds to do new things (like single payer) if they want. The limitation is that it doesn’t allow the states to see crappy, useless plans as insurance and enforces minimum medical care standards. Republicans hate that, they would rather people be able to buy useless policies that fail them in the end (but make insurance companies money in the process), and they didn’t want to give poor people insurance through Medicaid, so they let the feds run their state exchanges and refused free Medicaid funding.

It looks like their replacement “plan” is going to end up as the ACA minus the standards, with lower Medicaid subsidies, and more chances for people to be cheated by the medical system, if the state allows it. They will stamp Trumpcare on it, the red states will finally do what they should have done before, and the blue state insurance systems basically won’t be changed while the red states can claim their insurance systems have improved when they really haven’t. I would hope people wouldn’t be fooled by these shenanigans but odds are they will think it’s the greatest thing ever without realizing it’s Obamacare but worse.

Make America sick again!

You can bet the house: the Republicans will never live under the healthcare plan they shove up America’s ass! They are so special from tax payers who cover their wars and deficits.

Somebody please explain: Does someone who has been diagnosed with Cancer or Diabetes or a Brain Tumor need to get different treatment to be cured if they live in Mississippi rather than if they live in New York or California? This is absolutely the stupidest concept I have ever seen. “States rights” is going to determine what kind of health care people receive? Starts to sound like the rebirth of the “Death Panels” to me.

Good. Many of those soon to be southern corpses voted against their own interests by voting for Trump. They deserve what they voted for.

All joking aside, the stupidity/cluelessness of our legislators is astounding. They were so blinded by their hatred of Obama, that all they could focus on was stopping or destroying anything that had his prints on it. How could it never have occurred to them that they would have to come up with actual plans that might actually work? That if all their gerrymandering and voter repression succeeded, that they would have to govern? Putzes. Idiots! The few men who appear to have some semblance of forethought are realizing reality, not the fantasy world the GOP braintrust lives in, might be dangerous to their political lives. Thus, blowing things up with no ambulances nearby might not be a good idea. We’ve got to get to work now to overthrow these bums in 2018!

I have a suggestion for the republicans on how to start their Obamacare repeal: Sit down with the intellectually challenged reality impaired voters who voted for them and speaking slowly using small words explain that Obamacare and the ACA are in fact the same thing, I’m sure this will come as a shock to a lot of them.

I would like them to describe, accurately, what damage the ACA is doing. That is a mystery to me.

actually, I think they are blowing smoke. His saying that only signals that he isn’t serious about extending healthcare to Americans.

I coined the term CACA, for the new conservative version of O-care the other day and now I’m thinking, NoBama-care.

It’s all that they give a shit about, repealing the legacy. They likely wouldn’t know damage if it kicked them in their schnutz.

That’s really creative, leftflank. An exceedingly rare example of great messaging on the left. I hope it catches on.

The sad part is, that I sort of despise the term caca but it fits in this case perfectly and it’s a an anagram so all good.

“Expect a lot of southern corpses on the horizon.” You say that as if it were a bad thing.

So do I understand correctly that his plan is not to do repeal through reconciliation at all, but rather to address pieces of the law one by one as replacement policies that can attract Dem votes come online? Which would be to say, basically, never? Or does he still want to use reconciliation only with strong supports for insurers, etc. in the interim? Reportage has not been clear on this…

“Medicare is one chunk, the individual market is one chunk…”

Medicare???

I know, lets repeal a ‘chunk’ of conservatism, the ‘chunk’ that contains the representatives.
Then replace them with actual zombies, truly a vast improvement.

Do they care about this enough to kill many of their own voters?.Are they sure it will kill more Democrats?

Mississippi will, of course, define “health insurance” on a chart which will have skin color along the horizontal axis and coverage along the vertical. The bars on that chart will approximate a hyperbola, never quite reaching zero, but at black, you will need to magnifying glass to see the bars.

Much more important will be pulling back health care for people with darker skin. Those people, you know, aren’t real Amuricans anyway.
