Discussion: Key Evangelical Leaders Try To Pull Their Flock Away From Trump

Discussion for article #246987

“Evangelicals are looking at those issues less and less. They’ve just become too worldly, letting anger and frustration control them, as opposed to trusting in God,” Stemberger said.

or maybe their brains have finally decided to function independently and they’re realizing that the answers to their perceived problems might not lie in a book of fiction… and the people they’ve relied on for interpretation and direction have their own agendas that don’t align anymore…

Bigots favor Trump. Evangelicals are bigots. This is not complicated.

“”"“as opposed to trusting in God”"""

Maybe I have this wrong ( I’m an atheist ) but I can’t see how anybody that has trust in God would care about this shit. Think about it. If you had Faith…really Believed…do you need a Pastor? A Priest ? If you thought God was in control…it was all up to Him and you owed your salvation to Him. Do you need ancillary equipment to make that better? Politics would be silly in your eyes if you Believed. God will do with that what He wants. Republicans and Democrats? They are all souls to save, not vote for and that’s where you’d be.

That’s why this guy has a conundrum. His flock doesn’t believe. Not as they should. They are acting as non-believers…which they are and that’s why Trump.

“The Bible is the most special thing.” ___ Donald Trump
He would, if truthful, add: ’ …just replace the Jews with Mexicans, and I could have written it myself!!!’ ~snicker!~

(With insight like that, how could they resist him? lmao ___ He will bring in two of the very best Corinthians to advise him on religious matters. Believe him; he’ll be the best on religion…argle bargle…derp, derp, derp…)

There’s no such thing as a Reformed Evangelical. You are one or you aren’t. If you are you don’t support Trump…or anything politics. Its a silly secular waste of time. So if you support Trump or Sanders or whomever…you aren’t an Evangelical Christian. You may call yourself one…but you aren’t one. These folks aren’t.

I don’t think there’s anything new here. I’ve long suspected that many self described evangelicals or born-agains where driven more by ethnic or tribal identity than the embrace of any identifiable theology. For many of these people issues like abortion or gay marriage are less about a respect for life or any biblical truths and more about the power of disapproval over your fellow citizens. Trump is just pulling these secular “evangelicals" into the sunlight and making their existence more obvious.

It’s also interesting that some religious leaders are now distancing themselves from this group, no don’t wanting to avoid any association with the racist and hateful views and behaviors they embrace, given how in the past these same leaders have been perfectly willing to count them among the faithful when it served their agendas.

The problem with most of the evangelicals who claim to be “born again” is that they are twice as bad the second time around!! Their hypocrisy is stunning!!!

I lost all respect for these so-called religious leaders a long time ago. Any doubts have been erased time and time again since. Truth be told, this isn’t about religious salvation; its about temporal political power. With all due respect, they can take their moral indignation and go straight to hell.

But hate is one of the foremost Christian values.

Not the values espoused by Jesus Christ, but by a majority of practicing Christians.

Evangelicals are the ISIS of Christianity.

These people supported George W. Bush, so I can’t say they have high standards. After he started an unjust war, they supported him again! There’s no voter more gullible than an Evangelical; all it takes, really, is just inserting the key words and phrases that give them a boner into your speeches.

“…seeking a candidate who can protect them from the Islamic State group, liberalism, growing secularism among Americans and economic insecurity for the country and their families.”

Yes, because Donnie is most certainly the one to save the FundiGelicals from “growing secularism”.

As with biblical interpretation, the RWNJ’s only hear what they want to hear.

Lost credibility as morality scolds. If your a Christian wondering WWD - what would Jesus do, voting for the guy who publicly cheated on his wife before bragging about his dick size as a presidential candidate probably isn’t the answer.

"I tell them, if you are not thoroughly satisfied with what you might interpret the depth of his faith might be, then the next thing we must look at is the candidate who will best preserve your First Amendment rights and allow you to express your Christian faith," Gallups said. "We're not electing a priest, a pope or a pastor. We're electing a president, a CEO, a commander in chief. I'm not perfectly happy with Donald Trump either, but I'm a realist."

Ok then… If you can’t support Trump with your christian faith …

then go ahead and support him with your christian fear — Got it —

Hey, division of church and state buckaroo!

If you are preaching politics to your sheeple, you need to lose your tax exemption status!

Newsflash:

Under the Internal Revenue Code, all section 501©(3) organizations are absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any candidate for elective public office. Contributions to political campaign funds or public statements of position (verbal or written) made on behalf of the organization in favor of or in opposition to any candidate for public office clearly violate the prohibition against political campaign activity. Violating this prohibition may result in denial or revocation of tax-exempt status and the imposition of certain excise taxes.

It is long past time to tax churches.

I’ve gotten an ad from a local MegaCircu$Church on several threads this morning. Cross Church. There are branch churches popping up in towns in NW Arkansas (Reminds me of WalMart-Bentonville is next town north). Its Mother Church has three 100 foot tall Crosses as beacons to the Gawd-fearers. It is, of course, nondenominational which means it loves ALL denominations $5$10$20$50$100 and ALL major credit cards. Gotta pay for the preacher (Ronnie Floyd) , and the AV equipment, perfect for launching Xian vocalists/ bands careers.

I think this because Evangelicals, and Republicans in general, believe that we are “safe” when we are on the offensive. War equals safety. So, this whole “Bush kept us safe” narrative was born from this fallacy. As far as the Evangelicals were concerned, mostly because Bush was covertly purporting this message, Iraq was a crusade to spread Evangelical Christianity, so they supported it with whole heart. Creepy, creepy stuff.
