Discussion: Key Architect Of The GOP Tax Plan Isn't Talking About It Much On The Trail

The tax plan was a total wet noodle. All these years the other side has been promising they were the party of lower taxes. This was their big opportunity and what did we get? Pennies for the working class, and a few bucks for suburban professionals like me.

I live in this district and it’s fair to say that it’s fiscally conservative yet socially liberal, although the fiscal part might change soon if things aren’t getting any better.

The district has been represented by terrible Republicans for years starting with Donald Rumsfeld (honestly wasn’t the worst of them) and then Phil Crane for 35 years. My mother will never forget being annoyed when she witnessed Crane throw his cigarette butt into the grass after he came out of a restaurant. We had a brief 6 year interlude of being represented by Dem Melissa Bean, but that came to an end when we got stuck with Joe Walsh who fortunately only lasted for 2 years before he got moved to another district that he lost and Roskam took over mine.

Main problems right now are high property taxes and a lack of good jobs. My family used to be in good shape, but my Dad (who is GOP) got laid off earlier this year and has problems finding a new job because of his age despite the fact he’s got a degree from the University of Chicago, won awards for his work, and has run at least 15 miles a week for decades. I’m trying to get a job myself with not much luck due to not having 3-5 years of experience that’s required for most of them (job sites consider 3-5 years “entry level”).

Casten wasn’t my first choice, but he’s likely going to win because of his business background, the fact he’s a fresh face in the political scene so he can’t be tied to Madigan, and the fact that a lot of people don’t like Trump in this district (including my Dad) and want someone to hold Trump accountable.

'She couldn’t stand Donald Trump but couldn’t bring herself to back Hillary Clinton either, so she voted for Gary Johnson for president in 2016. But when she woke up the morning after the election, she was aghast at the results.

“I put my feet on the ground the day after Trump was elected… and just said ‘no, no, no,’” she told TPM.’

'Nother useful idiot. Wonder if she learned anything.

I remember clearly hearing about how “tax cuts would pay for themselves.” So, the huge new deficit must be from those greedy seniors on Social Security! (Republican “logic.”)

“(honestly wasn’t the worst of them)”

How fucked up is that?

See today’s New York Times on how those tax cuts for the 1% DON"T pay for themselves. Surprise, surprise…

So, you don’t know how expensive cat food is? It’s cheaper to make your own. Not to mention healthier.
