Discussion for article #224210
If any troll is looking to blame someone, blame the fat bastard Kerry is shaking hands with. Despite Grampy Insaneâs assertion that a deal for an extended stay could have happened, al-Maliki clung to the agreement Dubya signed in 2007; in addition, he continued to ostracize the Sunni community until they couldnât take it any more. This war is all on the Iraqis, and having US troops there would have only given ISIL more target opportunities.
KERRY CONFRONTS INTENSIFICATION OF DECADE-LONG INTERNECINE WAR IN IRAQ.
TPM headline corrected for enchanced accuracy.
It is so funny to watch how the usual crowd has shifted from praising Obama and give him credit for the American troops withdrawal in Iraq to blaming that same result on Bush. Poor little white flags in the windâŚ
Oh, another swing and a miss.
The reason the Iraqi âarmyâ is running is because they KNOW they canât reverse a 1000 years of Sunni-Shia infighting. They are smart.
Iâm going to regret wasting my time trying to explain this to you, but Iâll give it a shot. Call me an optimist.
Bush did the right thing by negotiating the withdrawal of U.S. forces called for in the SOFA. Obama did the right thing by carrying out that agreement, rather than reneging on it.
But now the neo-cons are saying that the current mess in Iraq is Obamaâs fault because he withdrew our forces. Right or wrong, deciding to get out wasnât Obamaâs idea in the first place. And the alternative would have been a virtually permanent military occupation of Iraq by the U.S., for which no rational person has any stomach.
The mistake was going into Iraq in the first place, and no amount of shuffling and dancing is going to change that.
Flags are something you should be well acquainted withâŚ
And, those white flags? Itâs your bed sheets hanging out of the window, letting the breeze dry themâever since you started pissing yourself over the gradual death of the GOP. Better put on your adult diapers ahead of the 2016 GOP death spiral.
So, you servedâŚright Beej?
Oh, wait, no. Your brother did. He flew helicopters while you flunked out of community college.
Conservatives are wet with their own effluvia over this. They canât really advocate for another war, and they canât admit that diplomacy is needed in any case. I predict they will soon be demanding for Kerry to resign over taking too many foreign trips.
So Libs, you have a solution to the problems in the middle east? The world awaits hearing of your solution with baited breath. hereâs your chance at being elected King of the World" Libs!!
Oh waitâŚyouâre just being theDick Cheney lap dog? That dog will never hunt will it?
OhâŚand youâre flagged for attempted thread jacking and trolling.
In addition to negotiations with a new regime, that some view as illegitimate
in Egypt and an ineffective regime in Iraq, shouldnât Kerry negotiate with the
countries funding ISIL? Countries such as Saudi Arabia?
Well, he didnât urge arming Syrian rebels, did he? Because a lot of those ârebelsâ are ISIS, right?
That might be a good first step I believe. Wonder if visiting The Kingdom is on his agenda. The press seems to have a complete aversion to putting anything related to Saudi Arabia in articles related to Iraq Iâve noticed. Youâd think they almost didnât share a huge border. Only 5 of the 6 countries that borders Iraq ever gets mentioned.
Since ISIL robbed a Shiâite bank, stealing over 400 million dollars, Saudi Arabiaâs initial seed money for ISIL probably seems quaint in comparison these days. Still, as frenemiesâŚthey should get a good talking to, as those on all sides of this civil war are part of this internecine conflict and have regional interests at stake.
Overall, we need to stay the fuck out of this mess, as we never should have gotten involved in the first damn place. Diplomacy is fine, but who really wants to listen to what America has to say on the issue of Iraq after we so royally screwed the pooch over this country. Good Luck Sec. Kerry. I have little hope that it will accomplish much however at this late date.
Actually, Malaki was the one who approached the Obama administration about extending the SOFA. He was stiff-armed by both the Americans and the Iraqi Parliament, but Malaki saw this coming and wanted us there to save his bacon.
