Seem like a lot of these folks are fighting an inner turmoil.

In the interest of not demonstrating what an insensitive, gloating asshole I can be: No comment.

I am thinking that anyone with skeletons in their closet is going to think very seriously about running for office.
Those in office with skeletons must be sweating profusely.
I suspect another wave of legislators “perusing other interests” or “spending time with their families” shortly

Any ONE in particular?

Eh, this guy was a miserable asshole who wasn’t too far apart from Roy Moore. As the article points out, KY is in the middle of its own #metoo movement, but the GOP is desperate to hold onto power. Even the batshit Republican governor is calling for these guys to step down. But this just amplifies the fact that, yeah, he probably did it.

Johnson was elected to the state legislature in 2016, part of a wave of Republican victories that gave the GOP control of the Kentucky House of Representatives for the first time in nearly 100 years.

Oh, and everyone take note of this little nugget the next time you want to lump KY in with the likes of AL and MS.

When asked about the passing of Joan Crawford, Bette Davis famously said: " My mother taught me never to say bad things about the dead, only good. Joan is dead. GOOD! "

And, of course, in the same flood of Oligarch money that has so thoroughly fucked over states like, say, Wisconsin and North Carolina.

Jus FYI: coroner is one of the many “why in fuck would anyone think that should be an elected office?” elective offices in Kentucky. Like virtually all Kentucky coroners, Dave Billings is a funeral home owner, not a pathologist or anyone with any criminal investigation expertise beyond some OJT and watching CSI. (There may be some voluntary actual training availible now, as the Courier Journal went on a huge spree about this disgrace back before I left, but, knowing Kentucky, I doubt it.)

The result is that Kentucky may well be the best possible state in the union in which to commit a premeditated murder. The kind of mistakes that would get you caught in other states can easily be missed in the rural counties there.

That said, Jefferson, Fayette and some of the Cincinatti burb counties may be exceptions. But this is still Kentucky . . .

The dove-notes are the saddest
In Kentucky;
The streams dance on the gladdest
In Kentucky;
Hip pockets are the thickest,
Pistol hands the slickest,
The cylinder turns quickest
In Kentucky.

No celebrating. This piece of shit just escaped justice. Check out the Lexington Herald-Leader for details on this scumbag: rape was just the beginning.

Also, give money to Louisville Public Media, which investigated Johnson and broke the story:

Kentucky’s coroners are constitutional officers like sheriffs and jailers and County Judge-Executives. Would take a constitutional amendment to get rid of them.

The better solution, which was adopted about 20 years ago, was to refer all possibly criminal and questionable cases to a professional Medical Examiner hired by the state.

Coroner can spew whatever nonsense he wants. The Medical Examiner will have the last word.

There was a coroner in Yakima, WA about 20-30 years ago who was notorious for claiming bizarre causes of death. For instance, as 12 year old boy who died in a house fire was assigned “masturbation” as a cause of death. I think his name was Dexter, if anyone cares to look.
I imagine he was elected.

Republican Gov. Matt Bevin posted on his Twitter account that “my heart breaks for his family tonight.”

How broken is his heart for the teenager who was assaulted in his basement? Or is this all that Jezebel’s fault?

There is reporting from KQED about this in CA. In San Joaquin County the Sheriff is also the Corner.

This is deeply horrifying. Did they run for office because they were already predators and thought this gave them MORE power? Did they think they could hide behind what they call their ‘religion’ to intimidate and control? Not only did he basically call the woman involved a liar, he professed innocence to his congregation and then blamed PTSD for anything he DIDN’T do.

One of those 2nd Amendment solutions :smirk:
