Why couldnât this law be used to discriminate against other minorities? If my preacher told me I donât have to serve mixed race couples then I donât have to, right? What else does religion trump? Because: there is no master list of government approved religions. You could even start one (as long as you used Christian symbolism somewhere as a cover). Or use an existing one. Islam allows people a lot of leeway to declare themselves clerics and issue fatwas, itâs not centralized. Have they considered that this law opens Indiana up to creeping sharia law? Itâs really amazing the echo chamber that red state politicians live in. I like my popcorn with lots of butter and salt, BTW.
What about all the arrangements that have been made, the need to scramble to find another available and suitable site, travel arrangements already made, broadcast plans already made, etc.
I agree with the threat of keeping this threat like a Sword of Damocles over the head of Indiana lawmakers, but realistically, the event cannot be moved in a matter of several days.

Does that contract say WHEN it has to be played? And does it say anything about the kids REFUSING to play?
Exactly, at this point itâs better to have it there and really expose the whole thing.

For a TV Contract, you betcha.
Not a chance. These kids played hard all year for this, and itâs a once in a lifetime opportunity, and they should and will play. And if one team chooses not to play, they forfeit. But that wonât happen either, the kids want to play. Period.
Itâs going to happen. What should also happen is that a lot of coverage of the Law be on TV during all of it. THAT is the proper and sane thing to do.

The kids always have the option of walking off, but Iâd hate to see this moral burden fall on them.
Theyâve trained and practiced countless hours for their moment. They had nothing to do to enact this law; letâs not take them as hostages in this matter or force them to sacrifice for something they had no part in.
This will resolve itself in the court of public opinion, and the outcome already seems clear.

You know if Bob Costa has a chance, he will say something, so yes, this political issue will seep into the sports fan consciousness.
Final four ticket prices are $576 for basic seating and approx. $1,500 for all the accoutrements, with its all-you-can-eat gluttony buffet to go along with your love for B-ball.

The creeping Sharia law angle is pretty awesome. Next, weâll be talking about the Indianapolis convention center as a no-go zone.
Indeed, Costas was great on Real Time last week when he pointed out how so many people canât accept that there were 2 truthâs in Ferguson, but also noted that far more conservatives were in denial than liberals, but good for him for calling out both.
And he will call out this Law big time, and good for him. Itâs best to keep the Final Four right where it is and get this all out there.

I didnât catch that, but I remember when he made a comment about guns after that football player shot himself a couple years back. He took some heat over it, but he stood my his comment.

That reminded me of someone I used to know. He qualified for the 1980 Olympics in rowing, but when we withdrew from the Games in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, he instead competed in the Maccabi Games in Israel.

I think that Keith is just keeping the pressure up, he obviously knows the real world ramifications of moving an event like this. He is being hyperbolic but intentionally I think.
Its just fighting fire with fire. Pence and the religious wackos are trying to spin their way out of this and distort what it really is and Olbermann is saying, sorry-this is the deathknell of Indiana. Which of course it isnât but its intended to make them understand the severity of their actions. Losing the final four is just like losing the Superbowl, its huge.

I would hate to see it too.
I imagine they went through a lot of hardship; almost as much as the gay kids who got beaten up in dark places when no one was looking, or disalllowed from attending a prom because they wanted to bring someone of the same sex, or told in a church that werenât REALLY hated because they were gay, only if they acted on it, or just told, no, you canât get married for no other reason than âick.â
There is a time when all those high-minded principles you were told by your parents have to be put to the test. Forgoing a dream is one. I agree itâs tough. But I keep thinking of MLK, who that dunderhead Pence tried to use as a shield today to cover his cowardly ass. He gave up his life for the idea that Black people are PEOPLE and demand to be treated as such. I also keep thinking of something as simple as Muhammad Ali, who was stripped of the Boxing Heavyweight Championship of the world all because âNo Vietcong ever called me ânigger.ââ Now the man, suffering from Parkinsonâs, is honored and respected for his decision not to fight in the Vietnam war.
That doesnât always happen, most of the time doing the right thing is unnoticed but in that case it was and if nothing else, he can sleep at night.
I have nothing but disgust and contempt for this law. And that disgust and contempt comes from a simple, elementary source. I would not want to be treated the way it allows businesses to treat gays in the state of Indiana. It is sickening to me. I will not excuse it. I will not âtry to understand.â I will not sympathizeâŚI will not be watching the Final Four and no one else should either.
Yes, I agree and I can forgive some hyperbolic comments about pulling the games from Indiana at the last minute. The main thing is to keep the pressure on.
I used to work for a sports venue that occasionally was the site of national and even international media coverage. Typically for those events, broadcast media come at least several days in advance with their trucks of equipment, technicians and satellite dishes and spend days researching and installing hookups, setting up booths or platforms for equipment, planning and staging camera angles, etc. Thereâs a lot more to it than just a couple guys showing up with a camera.
