Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh played coy

That’s charitable.

Senator Leahy gutted Kavanaugh. He basically accused Kavanaugh, with evidence, of lying to Congress in his 2006 testimony regarding his participation in the Bush WH reviews of the legality of torture, and also knowingly using stolen Democratic emails (from Leahy and Senate Dem staff) to prepare potential Bush nominees for confirmation hearings. The person who stole those emails was a Kavanaugh colleague at the office of WH Counsel and emailed the stolen info to Kavanaugh.

Kavanaugh had no response except to say that, ‘911 made me do it’.

“Hypotheticals”: when you don’t want to show your partisan hand to the opposition

Why isn’t an article being made about Leahy gutting Kavanaugh over the stolen emails?

That’s how many? At least two? things he’s called “hypotheticals” that might well happen in the current circumstances. The president has talked about pardoning himself, and there’s a real question about subpoenaing him. It’s not some law-school essay question. They’re not abstract things that don’t matter. I’m actually getting a little tired of this hypothetical dodge, especially when you simply label every question as a hypothetical and make it a get out of jail free card.

The president pardoning himself shouldn’t be a hard question. Do you believe the president is above the law or not, its a pretty fundamental question.

No shit = everything is hypothetical until it happens.

The fact that is a hypothetical question, and not a currently pending question in a case before the Court, is precisely why this asshole SHOULD be forced to answer it.

Exactly.

The only questions he can really answer are all hypothetical.

“That’s a hypothetical question that I simply can’t begin to answer. I will not answer hypothetical questions of that sort.”

Fuck you, Kavanaugh.

This is not about abortion, Kavanaugh was nominated based on his willingness to protect tRump. tRump is doing everything possible to make like King Leonidas of the 300 Spartans and surround himself with those who can protect him.

It will only delay justice as the day will come when he’s out of office and a Democrat is President. There will be no commutation or pardon.

I’m following the hearing but I can’t figure out where to post this because there are several threads. Lindsey Graham just (by implication) gave rationale that would justify torture (He didn’t use that word but laid out conditions about what is allowed during “times of war” or when someone is cooperating with an enemy.) That’s how far Graham is willing to take his partisanship - wouldn’t John McCain be proud? I will remember Graham’s argument when Trump is proven to have collaborated with Russia.

“Can a President pardon themself? Well, duh – why do you think I’m here?,” continued Kavanaugh, “Like, duh.”

This is bizarre. The trigger for turning these hypotheticals into reality could be Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the court and the possible 5-4 majorities that would give Trump. But they’re too hypothetical for he who would be the trigger to comment on.

“Hypothetical” now means “any question I have not already published an answer to”? Why even bother to ask him anything then?

I’m sure he doesn’t buy toilet paper at home because that shit he’s going to take later is just hypothetical.

Except he’s already publicly stated how he feels about this subject. He just isn’t willing to say it under oath.
