“If there are no background checks for gun purchasers, how do you prevent felons or terrorists from walking into, say a licensed gun dealer and purchasing a gun?”
This kerfuffle was over something as trivial as terrorists buying guns without having to endure any sort of background check whatsoever?!?! Goddamn some people have effed up priorities!
Just note how many guns she buys during this episode, and how easily.
“the pause was meant to provide viewers with “a moment to consider this important question.””
Well, since pausing to consider the question is precisely what the NRA and its ammosexual army don’t want anyone doing under any circumstances whatsoever, you pretty much just admitted…at least as far as they are concerned…that the pause was deliberate liberal gun-grabber propaganda.
Of course, an open gun show is the best place to stock up. Especially during their “Tub-O-Guns” sale special!
my take away from this is that people never learn…
how many times have we heard that the coverup is often worse than whatever happened? then politicians and corporations continue to do it…
news people… mis-leading or false edits… Dan Rather and his ‘W’ scoop… NBC and their false edit… even the Planned Parenthood story with the selective editing…
then we wonder why people are skeptical and/or cynical…
We all know that the pro-gun side was going to try to discredit this work, no matter how well produced it was. An “own goal” like this editing job does their work for them.
Jesus…how many idiots in that photo do you think have their finger actually, inappropriately on a trigger?
They’re just cleaning them…Owwww, goddamn, you shot my foot, you stupid mother…Oh shit…that hurts like hell…whadddya mean “I didn’t know it was loaded?”
In a statement posted online Monday night, Couric said she raised concerns about the pause during a screening of the film with Soechtig, who told Couric the “beat” was added for “dramatic effect.”
Soechtig said … …the pause was meant to provide viewers with “a moment to consider this important question.”
Why add artificial drama where there is enough drama already?
Really. And eight seconds? That’s not a beat, that’s an era.
This is puzzling. Palin was able to give Couric an idiotic stare and she was afforded no pauses.
I chalk this up to gun nutz working the refs as usual. The question Couric asked, still stands regardless of a dramatic pause or not. And the answer by the people responding seems to be, you can’t prevent bad guys from getting a gun while ignoring the original question on instituting background checks that could catch many of these people the gun advocates describe. Without a background check, how would one know someone is a felon on parole, an undocumented immigrant, or on some terrorist watchlist? Just because you can’t catch all of the bad guys out there doesn’t mean you shouldn’t bother to try to catch some of them from getting a gun. There seems to be some kind of weird consensus among these gun nutz that you should have an automatic right to purchase a firearm without having to prove you’re not on some kind of list that bans you from that activity. That kind of thinking is pure bullshit and dangerous to all of society too.
However the SNL skit of Couric interviewing Palin added pauses for additional drama.

But that was for humor. Gun Control documentaries should spare us any brevity.
I despise the NRA. I hate gun nuts. But really Katie, didn’t you learn anything from the Dan Rather fiasco?
You gotta give them credit. They dont hesitate to call out the other side. I wish we would do the same when appropriate
Of course, They are masters at it and they get away with it.
Bad form is bad form, but those guns all appear to have cable locks.
No shit! Did you see the hack job they did to the video?! How can anyone think that a “misleading” pause wouldn’t blow the entire argument. It would be nice to have a reasoned discussion about eliminating firearm access to terrorist, felons, and mental health patients, but then they had to politicize it. Worse than James O’Keefe.
rules for handling firearms never change…
treat EVERY gun as if it’s loaded… even if you see it ‘unloaded’ by someone else…
keep your finger OFF the trigger unless you are aiming to pull it…
ALWAYS point the firearm in a SAFE direction, which he doesn’t appear to be doing, because you know… accidents…
the ‘I’ve done this a 1000 times before, grew up handling firearms’ bullshit is just that and it’s how accidents happen…
as for cable ties in the barrel… I learned Rule #9 when I was 11 from and aunt who told me to always carry a knife… they make quick work of cable ties…
