Next up, Cruz announces that he won’t quit after losing Texas. This only proves that he is an idiot.

No, I think what he’s hoping for is that Cruz and Rubio both lose their home states, but he wins his, which would be his (weak) justification for remaining in the race and becoming the “last anti-Trump candidate standing.” .But I seriously doubt it will work out that way.

I thought at the beginning, way back in September of two aught and one five, that Cruz’ goal was to do well enough to claim the pole position as It’s His Turn in the 2020 presidential race, because the prize in that cycle is the among biggest of the Big Magillas keys to Republican power in Washington, RE-DISTRICTING thru the next decade.
From a ‘game theory’ POV, if losing in 2016 to an old anti-charismatic D nominee who’ll be in office when the supposed next ‘down turn’ in the economic cycle occurs, a.k.a. The Big One, means the Rs sweep the 2 electoral branches in 2020, it’ll be worth it.
Say Goodnight, John-Boy! You’re finished when Trump steamrolls you in Michigan and Ohio. When he finishes with you, you’ll be thinner than a crepe!
John, the game is over whether you win Ohio or not.

Actually, since he said everyone should be able to win their home state,he is hoping that Rubio wins FL, Cruz wins TX and he wins OH…which basically creates the showdown brokered convention in Cleveland.
Any two of those can events can probably force a brokered convention…all three definitely would and definitely would keep all 4 in the race…technically.
There is only a possibility of Texas going to Cruz though, at the moment. Rubio is down some 20 points in Florida, with very bad fundamentals for any sort of turn around to happen. The numbers are pretty much the same in Ohio, though its further out and not being polled heavily yet.
Again…
If Kasich had some ham, he would make a ham sandwich…if he had some bread.
That phrase still sums up his campaign strategy.

Good point, I was thinking about it in terms of Kasich hoping to round up a majority of delegates. But that scenario is so far-fetched at this point that your explanation makes a lot more sense.

The underlying problem that has been there all campaign is still there…
there are too many people still in the race. And none of them is willing to step down to prevent Trump from winning. The longer they stay in, the more delegates they assure him. Kasich staying in until Ohio makes it more likely that Trump picks up Florida AND Texas…as well as every other state between now and 3/15…including rest of the states that day.
And if Trump wins FL and TX…it won’t matter if Kasich wins OH. Anymore than it will matter that Cruz won Iowa.
I think they all need to watch this scene from Pulp Fiction again:
