Discussion: Karl Rove: A ‘Fresh Face’ Might Be Better Than Trump Or Cruz For GOP Nom

A Fresh face? Perhaps a fresh, square, hammish face?

Karl Rove: I moved the country forward when I installed George Bush as POTUS. My experience, therefore, must be relevant.

A face we do to make ourselves feel better?

Trump: Rove supported Romney and we know how it turned out. I think he is still in the middle of counting Ohio votes for Romney. Who listens to him? Even uninformed FOX viewers don’t like him.

A kindler, friendlier face that you want to have a beer with, but will still be a racist, homophobic, warmongering a-hole who will launch an unnecessary war, destroy the economy, and allow a terrorist attack that will kill thousands of Americans.

“Donald Trump excites a lot of enthusiasm,” Rove said about the Republican frontrunner. “But he also excites a lot of anger within the Republican Party and outside of the Republican Party. And a fresh face might be the thing that could give us a chance to turn this election and win in November against Hillary.”

The only difference between Donald and someone like Rubio is that the latter was using a penny whistle to continue that failed Hillary/Benghazi meme. That '13 autopsy didn’t lie in regards to how the fix the party. It’s just that party elders and their candidates are choosing to ignore it.

A fresh face, because the other 17 we trotted out just didn’t work.

But, I believe he is correct. Trump’s general election numbers are abysmal, and probably are pretty immutable at this point. 2016 is going to be the worst EC blowout that the GOP has suffered in Rove’s lifetime, and is shaping up to be a wave election that kills them down ticket, too.

In fairness, Trump went directly after it and ripped it to shreds from the moment he threw his hat into the ring. And that pretty much forced the hands of rest of the candidates.

Not that they hadn’t already decided to ignore it. That was clear in 2014.

While Rove conceded Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) is “more electable” than frontrunner Donald Trump because he “lacks the misogynist comments and the four bankruptcies,” he didn’t offer names of any possible Republican alternatives that could match Hillary Clinton in a general election.

“and this is the part where Rove should have listed all of Cruz’s attributes…”

“[Trump] claims that he can be presidential when he needs to be. If he wants to change those numbers, he ought to start acting in a presidential manner, whatever he thinks that is, because right now, his numbers are abysmal,” he said. “Maybe the numbers are pliable for him. I doubt it. But he’d better show us some evidence by July 18th that he can change these numbers.”

This isn’t Cinderella. The party leadership had to have known that they were getting the 2016 version of Jacky Smurch as a presidential candidate, but as long as that guy was controllable, then Trump being in this campaign wasn’t a problem. Now all of a sudden…

Fresh as in, someone who didn’t run yet or FRESH as in, someone who has run but got his/her lunch eaten by Trump?
