Discussion for article #227394
Kareem yet again keeps it real.
“If his arena was filled mostly with whites and he wanted to attract blacks, wouldn’t he be asking how they could de-emphasize white culture and bias toward white contestants and cheerleaders?” Abdul-Jabbar asked.
Perhaps, that is, if he wanted specifically to attract blacks.
If however the objective is simply selling more tickets, it’s hard to see how the race of the person buying them should matter.
I think the email was all about increasing ROI. I agree 99.9% with Kareem.
Levenson wrote, “My theory is that the black crowd scared away the whites and there are simply not enough affluent black fans to build a significant season ticket base.”
Based on his statements in the rest of the email, I would infer that he meant that whites were scared by the presence of the black crowd. That is, the black crowd didn’t actively scare the white crowd for the purposes of instilling fear; it was passive fear.
But he’s a mooslim. He can’t be reasonable.
It shouldn’t but it does.
Hasn’t Kareem heard that everyone speaking in public is supposed to be shocked, outraged, or sadly dismayed by everything, always?
His observations are far too reasonable for public consumption.
I’m OUTRAGED, INSULTED & OFFENDED by what you just wrote, Quaker! In fact, I demand an APOLOGY — but only of the “I’m sorry to anyone who was offended” variety.
Therefore, in keeping with marketing principles, they must adjust their presentation to ameliorate the unwarranted fear of the wealthy white bigot. I suppose they could begin by getting rid of all the black players…no, wait, that won’t work…
We can only wonder how the NHL and PGA will handle this diversity crisis.
Why is everyone only looking at these comments as “black guy defends white guy?”
If you read it as “millionaire defends millionaire” it becomes a lot less surprising.
Kareem gets it, but not like it will be heard over the tumult.
It’s funny that subtle institutional racism gets a pass. This is worse then Donald Sterling. He was trying to propose a racist business policy to get more racists into attend basketball games.
It’s the pro basketball team owner’s conundrum. He hires blacks as his employees to sell tickets but the clientele that shows up isn’t exactly what he has in mind.
This guy is dead in the middle of it. I wouldn’t give him the white guilt excuse personally, that is PC crap on a stick.
You’d almost think that Jabbar is trying to become an owner of an NBA franchise - oh wait!
