Discussion: Kansas Is The Senate Race Of The Year -- So Where's The Big Money?

Discussion for article #228492

Q: Where’s the big money?

A: You only bet if you think you’re going to win. Koch is picking low-hanging fruit to stop their own losing streak; throwing money at Roberts will only extend it.

Roberts was already in trouble before the Dem stepped aside; that move only solidified Greg Orman’s chances to win. Combine that with general dissatisfaction (to put it mildly) Brownbackonomics, and the big money knows it can do a LOT better elsewhere.

Makes me worry they know something about Orman that we don’t. But, on the other hand, no amount of money can dig a candidate out of as deep a hole as Roberts is in and no amount of poll unskewing can change that.

I understand Dinesh D’Souza has a plan to funnel a lot of money to the Roberts campaign.

You all understand that Orman is very well connected with big money. He is wealthy in his own right. Kansas City, which dwarfs everything else in Kansas, is a relatively cheap media market. Orman could easily hang with Roberts no matter how much the Kochs were to spend. The Kochs have bigger fish to fry in Kansas. Their boy Sam Brownback is in deep trouble.

I guess Pat Roberts isn’t Koch sucky enough for the 2BKoch

Kansas has nothing to offer the Koch brothers to plunder. Scott Walker in Wisconsin gave the Kochs the mining rights to Wisconsin. In exchange Scottie got a couple of million dollars. That’s peanuts to the Kochs. Now that is an investement the Koch brothers made that will pay them big for a long long time.

The big money GOPs have concluded that Roberts has already lost. This is no different than them pulling out of the Michigan Senate race.

Roberts is a lost cause and they know it. Sure it will be an embarrassment for the party but the bigger problem is the GOP might not win the senate. A Roberts loss will pale in comparison to blowing their best chance to take the Senate. If Republicans were as confident of a ā€œwaveā€ or even a ā€œslam dunkā€ as they pretend they would be all over the Roberts race.

This is what I’m worried about. Maybe Orman is a Trojan Horse. Is he just playing nice with Democrats to win?

Charles Koch is almost precisely the same age as Roberts

Has to be a heck of lot of personal history between the two of them

It’s the Koch brothers really but it is also Brownback and Kobach’s fault, Roberts is collateral damage. And hopefully there is more. Kill the Kochtopus while it’s vulnerable.

Either the GOP has a Rove-type ā€˜in’ with the people who count the votes or they think they can charm Orman or a bit of both. On the other hand they may have faith the other races will give them the results they want.
