Discussion: Kaine: Russia Investigation 'Potentially' Moving Into 'Treason' Territory

I believe November 8, 2016 was the Pearl Harbor Day of our present cyber war with Russia. A sneak attack that resulted in their taking of the White House. We should do everything necessary to take our democracy back, both from Russia and its Republican Party collaborators. Those who cooperated with Russia in this attack are guilty of treason, as surely as if they helped Osama bin Laden.

No different than if Russian Marines had landed in Norfolk VA

Moving? Wrong tense.

MOVED!

And this is where it moved to.

“Treason” - it’s got a nice ring to it.

Senior Democrats are being cautious but very clear on where this story is headed. Most likely wanting to make sure the public has a chance to digest this stunning news and not wanting to get too far ahead.

Schiff speaks of “potential collusion” and now Kaine of “potential treason”. They know more than we do and are preparing us for the next twist and turn on this roller coaster.

It’s like 1980 and Reagan’s treason, but executed by backstabbing, blabbermouth idiots.

Totally agreed on this. The investigation charter states that Mueller can take this anywhere he finds crimes. I suggest he makes sure to look deeply at the hierarchy of the GOP funding machine and their relationships with paid agents (like Stone and Smith) and the mega-donors like the Mercer and DeVos family. We need to know if they were complicit.

In my view we seize every dollar from any American involved. We seize every Russian Ruble coming into the West. We cut off their access to the global financial system (SWIFT) and we greenlight every single Russian who gave the orders on up to Putin himself.

Seriously, there needs to be a Cyber War Doctrine for the United States. We need to clearly state it to our allies and enemies alike - and we must make a fearsome example of traitors and enemies, foreign and domestic.

Excellent analysis. These “phases/words” are strategic and my hat is off to the Democrats for their handling of the mess.

Without the excuse of Americans being held hostage.

So if it is deemed treason, what are the steps for replacement of President, VP, and how far down?

I tell you what concerns me - Trumps power to pardon. I have a feeling that no matter what is found out, all will be pardoned before anything can be done.

Let me know if I’m off base here, but it’s very concerning…

If charges can be brought in NY State Court (and crimes DID occur in NY), it prevents any WH pardon options.

Someone please correct me if in error

Kaine’s a pretty cautious and generally unaggressive pol, so it’s good to see a prominent Dem like him now openly using the “T” word.

Now repeat, amplify, coordinate, and repeat.

Trumps power to pardon.

If Trump starts pre-emptively pardoning people, all that will do is ratchet up the shitstorm to Katrina levels. Pardoning Nixon probably sunk Jerry Ford’s chances at getting elected in his own right, and Trump would be doing the same to himself. Rightly or wrongly, most Americans see pardons as explicit admissions of guilt.
