Time to permit PEDs in sports. Cheating is the law of the land.

Roberts is so concerned with his “legacy” that he has joined the liberals on some (very few) decisions. He might as well not bother. His legacy has already been written.

Well, now we have to win big so that we can gerrymander all the districts ourselves. Also, to make Puerto Rico and DC full states.

Conservatives in support of only conservatives in support of only conservatives in support of only conservatives ad infinitum…
Nixon’s elections were fixed.
Reagan’s election was fixed.
W’s election was fixed, and Trump’s election was fixed.
And these conservatives say the government will survive?
Unlimited money, unlimited gerrymandering and unlimited conservative grifting will , and maybe already HAS, killed democracy, or what there was of democracy (no women voters, no poor voters, no African/American voters, no Native American voters) from the beginning.

Kagen’s point about how tech works now is hugely cogent.

Tech has changed every other aspect of our existence, like the way we buy things, the way we meet our future mates or enemies, and the way a moronic president communicates with the American people.
That should be paramount in understanding and organizing how we vote, too.

If Democrats do really well in 2020, couldn’t they utilize partisan gerrymandering to lock in their gains for years?

Roberts’ legacy has been written in mud.

Time for a constitutional amendment addressing this? That would at least get individual state legislators on the record.

Also, an amendment addressing election funding. At least say that only individuals can donate. Corporations, unions, PACs…they don’t vote. Only people vote.

Call it Bill of Rights 2.0.

"She countered that technology has allowed for gerrymandering that is “far more effective and durable than before, insulating politicians against all but the most titanic shifts in the political tides. ”

"All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Why does TPM and every other media outlet continue to lie and call the 5 Republican Justices on the court whose only consistent principle is what is good for the Republican party "conservative. There is nothing conservative about this ruling. Rather it is a partisan ruling made with the only goal is to help the Republican party and, as Kagan points out lacks any meaningful Constitutional or legal explanation other than “because we don’t give a damn about democracy, the Constitution or our oaths of office and just want our side to win”.

Obviously. We’re going to end up with serious disparities among the states. States that take care of people via Medicaid, etc. will see a big influx over time. The gerrymandered states with elected representatives who could give a rat’s ass about the down and out will slide further downhill, with fewer jobs and more crime. But the legislators will be safe in their gated communities.

I’d like to see a survey of all state legislators with information on whether they reside in a gated community, housing value, etc. Should be publicly available and useful for voters. Josh should assign an intern to this. But Josh doesn’t read most of these choir preaching comments, so maybe someone can let him know.

To sum up today’s SC decisions, gerrymandering gives Republicans such an unfair advantage that they won’t need to corrupt the census in order to remain in power.

The lesson I remember about gerrymandering is that when it is broached by a wave election, it falls hard. So let’s get to it in 2020.

“Free and fair and periodic elections are the key” to the framers’ vision of democracy, Kagan said.

At which point, the five GOP justices frantically spun their graggers to drown out the offensive words.

Hmm, the umpire decided that calling balls and strikes is fine as long as his team gets to write the rules.

It’s long past time to use the power in Art.3, Sec.2, Cl. 2 to remove all matters of elections and campaign finance from SCOTUS appellate review. The Rehnquist and Roberts Courts have shown they can’t be trusted with such fundamental power.

This is a really dangerous game Republicans are playing. When non-democratically elected leaders do violence to their constituents through their actions, it is morally permissible to return the favor. No one wants America to go in that direction. But most forget what the world was like before democracy. We don’t want to go back.
