I’ve been saying this forever. Gay people are not a separate class of people.

Gay people are not the people across the tracks. A gay person is the member of your team who has a secret. As a member of your team he enjoys all the benefit that any other member of your team enjoys, until he decides (according to his own timing) to come out of the closet, at which point he endures whatever response your team places on homosexual behavior.

It is fundamentally different from being a of another race, which is undeniable and known before you are born.

She told the publication that public acceptance, or “familiarity,” remains an obstacle for black Americans, contrasting their experience with that of LGBT individuals.

What Ginsburg is calling public acceptance or “familiarity” that black people don’t have that gay people do have is actually “sameness”.

The majority of gay people in the US (most gay people in the US are white) are same as the majority of the people in the US (most people in the US are white). It’s not simply a case of being familiar; it’s a case of there being no duality at all. “it could be your child” or in other words, “the same as you.”

The fact that one man is outside your family and the other man is not, makes all the difference in the world. One person is trying to convince their own mother; the other person is trying to convince a total stranger.
