Discussion: Judge Who Halted Scott Walker Probe Attended Koch-Backed Judicial Junkets

Discussion for article #223235

Are there no judges left who recuse themselves when they have a clear conflict of interest in a case???

IOKIYAR. Especially if you look like you could play a creepy, torture-loving bad guy in an Indiana Jones movie.

This is why both Georgia Republican senators want Boggs installed for life on a higher court. He attends their conservative fundraisers and will guard their backs like this judge did.

So let me get this straight-

The Koch brothers directly funded special interest seminars year after year with the requirement that the attendees would submit themselves to pro-business lobbying/indoctrination; and in exchange the attendees (government employees apparently) would receive luxury accommodations, meals and likely gifts during that period?

How, by any measure available, can this be considered ethical behavior? Where were the institutional compliance people? Surely there must be more to this story because the obvious implications are damning.

I don’t understand, why isn’t someone bringing impeachment papers against this judge

It’s comforting to know that America has the best justice money can buy.

I was trying not to go there in order to be PC, but, gee, does he look creepy!

What would be the point of being bought, if you don’t stay bought and actually do the work needed by the buyers?

Yes, you are right that this situation called for more than a simple recusal. We already knew that our justice system had problems - but is this kind of major ethical violation common?

It’s so cheap to corrupt judges and other public officials because we nickel-and-dime their budgets. Judges should have the money to travel to seminars and pay for their own damn lodging and meals, rather than relying on handouts from rich people who are dramatically unlikely to sponsor continuing education that goes against their interests.

That “someone” you speak of is usually the House of Representatives. Those people can’t wipe their own butts without complaining about the toilet paper.

None appointed by Republican presidents, apparently.

Holy Smokes…that is a scary man.

What would be the point of taking a bribe if you were going to recuse yourself?

It is hardly surprising that a judge who tries to negate a law against bribing politicians is taking bribes himself.

Sorry, but even the worst Psychic Friends Network member saw this one coming.

Well, the Constitution is sort of old and crinkly.

Evidently we’re just not getting with the program. The oligarchs have told us: money is speech, and corporations are people. That’s the extant interpretation of the law. Let’s just suck it up and get over it, and concern ourselves with bending over and grabbing our ankles.

Or…

Surely I am not the only one who desperately hopes Anonymous will skin this guy for us?

From the looks and sounds of him, is there much doubt that there’s a veritable skeleton’s gala goin’ down in his closet(s)? …and not just on a Republican political graft level?

Call me crazy, but I detect this fellow may have a wide stance.

Why this genteel-man looks so totally credible to me in a Godfatherly sort of way.

Are there any options to remove his sorry ass or is he allowed to be corrupt and protected for life?
