Discussion: Judge Unseals Contempt Order For Roger Stone Aide Resisting Mueller Grand Jury Testimony

I would kinda like to see Mueller just proceed with indictments and prosecutions despite Guiliani’s threats. The president isn’t on the ballot nor are any of the folks (that we know of) currently being investigated. The 60 day rule shouldn’t apply to everyone who has any association with anyone in politics.

True. But they are going to yell no matter what. I’m not so sure that the non-rabid Trump supporters or supposed “independents” are going to be too moved by more hysterical carrying on by Trump, Rudy and co. I don’t want Mueller to pause now. The stakes are too high.

FOX: Deep State continues its work.

We can’t live our lives or go about the business of justice if we remain gripped to worry about how his voters will react. Most will react badly and angrily, what’s new? They’re going to do that whether charges come down in October or January.

That’s the truth. If there is one thing about the Democrats that I can complain about it is this - worrying about what the GOP and/or the media will say about something.

SMDH = if it’s the right thing to do just fucking do it and ignore the damn critics.

Its an “Civil Contempt” order…

Some have referenced Roger Stone as a trickster in the tradition of the late great Dick Tuck. Ha! Stone is not fit to carry Dick Tuck’s Whoopie cushion.

Yeah, but he can do his 14 days standing on his head.

I see you don’t understand how this stuff works.

And here, I thought I was the only one to recall Tuck.

^^ This exactly.

Should parents stop punishing children because the kids scream and cry?
Should personal trainers stop pushing clients who say they’re tired?
Should cops stop arresting people who shout at them?

For better or for worse, many of the arenas in American life are organized along adversarial lines. This means we should expect opposition to take extreme, raucous forms. For us to suddenly forget this, to suddenly flinch just because our opponents raise a hue and cry, would be as foolish and antithetical to the whole project as if just one poker player laid their entire hand on the table face-up.

Conservatives call liberals “cucks” because the liberal impulse to treat opponents with civility, to seek common ground, and to find compromise is easily exploited by bad-faith actors. And Americans have been self-sorting themselves according to this difference for a long time. The GOP and the Republican voting base are now disproportionally comprised of people who not only tolerate but valorize the willingness to fight dirty to win.

Have you checked on the polling about that POV before releasing it to the public? /s

I wonder what that could possibly be?

Yes. I remember reading an article by Jeffrey Toobin written in the aftermath of the Gore/Bush election. His final comment was that Democrats wanted to get the vote counts right, but Republicans wanted to win. The implication being, of course, that the wanting to win trampled on any other consideration.
