Iâm confused. If Concord is found guilty, who goes to jail, the attorney?
I continue to be amazed at how littleTierney Sneed understands about courts and judges, and how unerriingly she manages to hone in on the thing that DOES NOT MATTER.
JFC, WTF is wrong with Josh that he canât see this?
No, because jail is but a type of sanction. Companies can be fined, put under sanctions, struck off the corporate registry books.
But IAE this case was never about prosecuting Concord to trial. The purpose of the OSC filing this indictment functons like one of those âreportsâ so many dimwits and ignorant nincompoops, even among lawyers, keep insisting is coming from Mueller. THERE WILL BE NO SECRET REPORTS, NO STARR CONDEMNATORY NARRATIVES. Mueller reports thru talking indictments - indictments ARE his âreportsâ, and this one that includes Concord tells an important piece of the story.
It is never smooth sailing when you go to trial. Thatâs why most people avoid it like the plague.
I seem to recall that the more recent related complaint against Pirgozhinâs accountant demonstrated that the trolls continued their antics after the original indictment and their lawyersâ claims of ignorance of FARA, registering with DOJ, etcâŚ
Emptywheel, who usually pours cold water on the dayâs revelations, is in this case pretty happy with the ruling, citing a recent complaint against a Russian as an indication that Mueller will in fact be able to show fraud as opposed to simple lying. https://www.emptywheel.net/2018/11/15/trump-appointee-dabney-friedrich-continues-to-trounce-the-trolls-hopes-of-discrediting-mueller/
I have full faith and confidence in Director Muellerâs ability to carry out prosecutions to their end; if itâs ânot guilty,â so be it. Heâs too smart, and the judge is just covering his ass in case of appeal. The real trial will be held in the courtroom, not on the pages of newspapers and blogs.
A judge advising them of the legal burden they bear for a prosecutorial line theyâre pursuing is a âwarning shotâ? Is there a click bait algorithm being employed by TPM?
Because Josh isnât a lawyer either.
They need someone on the staff that has a legal background that could understand whatâs going on more clearly.
For some reason I thought Josh went to law school.
Wasnât Ted Cruz his classmate?
Not sure myself - didnât think so, but what do I know? In any case, this whole thing seems to be out of the ken of all but the most detailed law career in this area. I wouldnât presume to assume anything I hadnât been firsthand involved in when it comes to this stuff.
Either in law school or undergrad - yeah. It might have been undergrad at Princeton. I canât remember for sure now.
Yeah I donât remember for sure and yes youâre right.
In these proceedings, Concordâs goal is not to vindicate itself but to uncover as much valuable information as possible.
And on the other side: Where culprits are predictably out of reach, there is no expectation that prosecutions can be carried out to their end. What there is: A detailed indictment so people know what happened.
Our Gracious Host is a historian, not a lawyer.
If memory serves, i think Josh was a history major
Q? What do you call a history major with a pager?
A: An Optimist!
The one doesnât preclude the other but the consensus is that youâre right.
@tomkremer - hahahahahaha
