Re your analogy, what’s the baby?
Oops, you’re right. And the Trumpistas would love a Reichstag Fire of our very own.
No, I’m not defending anything, just wondering what the issue here is. Have just seen the statue has been there for 90 odd years, and he was an important and fondly remembered historical figure in the South. Was the motivation for removing it really because ‘he was an insurrectionist’? That seems pretty weird, all this time on. There’s a statue of Cromwell near Houses of Parliament not too far from Buckingham palace, and he committed regicide.
There are also attempts to remove statues of people like a Rhodes from oxford colleges because his views reflected those of his time on race etc. Personally I think it’s far better to let the statues remain but perhaps change their surroundings, provide education etc if needed. This seems unnecessarily inflammatory.
Combined with what they did to Kansas and are gunning to do to the entire country: American Prospect: Kansas, Brownback, and the Trickle-Down Implosion
Why are those on the left so obsessed by inequality? It comes across like nasty and divisive politics of envy. Surely the focus should be on living standards, which have consistently been going up for everybody. Stop caring how much ‘other’ people are earning. Money isn’t everything.
The baby are people who have lost faith in Washington’s interest in their economic plight. I think many potential voters fit in that basket, but many of them stay home when it comes time to vote. Then there are people who did vote Trump out of anger and ignorance – and because they believe in what they see on tv.
The media didn’t do its job convincing the country that Trump was a danger and a hopeless lout. Let’s not forget that. Not everybody formulated their political opinions on the basis of TPM and NY Times articles.
Actually the cost of living has outstripped the pace of rising wages for the vast majority of americans. Your characterization is like oppositeville in the US over the past 2+ decades.
carry flowers…
Ukky must be quite popular. He can fit Trump’s, Putin’s, and white trash protesters dicks in his mouth at the same time.
Or, better yet, “Klan cologne.”
Do you think these people carrying torches are reachable?
And is it on us when they ignored the issues you are describing – and rejected the one candidate that actually formulated plans to address them – in favor of an orgy of hatred, intolerance and fear?
I reject this notion that the Democratic Party abandoned the white working class voter. Rather, it is they who abandoned us.
In the immortal words of the late, great David Bowie: “They’re immune to your consultations.”
FIFY!
Maybe because poverty sucks. And we are the only only first tier industrialized Western nation with the kind of poverty that some better souls among us see as something we need to fight against.
that how I posted it to FB, I try to be a bit more subtle here…
Obviously I don’t. Please stop trying to make an argument where there is none. It ill becomes you.
I’m making the argument!?
After you come here with some “both sides” argument, as if this outpouring of white supremacy is the result of a failure of the Democratic Party?
I think perhaps you misunderstand what the standard of living is. Although it’s true economically things have been in a bit of a rut for a while, exactly which period of history would you rather be living in? Without your mobile, hdtv, internet connection, cheap transport together with all the other mod cons. The biggest health problem in America today is caused by overconsumption, which is telling. There are real problems to be addressed, but focussing on what some tiny group of Poole are earning won’t solve anything, and just make people feel things are worse than they actually are.
I’ve done no such thing. You’re being absurd.
And if you think it isn’t the Democraic Party’s job to try and convince voters who’ve lost faith that they need to come to the polls and vote their interests, you’re living on another planet.
If you got out of bed on the wrong side this morning, please find someone else to take it out on. You’re being totally graceless for no reason at all. Or is it that having supported Bernie Sanders just will ever remain irredeemable sin for you? What a pity.
Would that be Sebaceous “The Oily” Gorka?
