Defense attorneys noted that prospective jurors who live in southwestern Kansas were twice as likely to have voted for Trump than prospective jurors in the Wichita area. Thatâs important because jurors will have to decide whether the menâs alleged conduct constituted a crime, or whether it was protected under the constitutional rights to free speech and assembly, and to bear arms.
Uhm. Wha? Seriously defense attorneys? A legal right to plant and detonate pipe bombs intended to cause property damage at least, and bodily damage or death at worst? Where did these folks go to law school - Alex Jones U. ?
Guess thatâs some chutzpah (if not downright cray-cray), all right.
Unbelievable. Itâs like we have collectively moved to an alternate universe in the past 12 months.
The actions of the accused are straight from the Trump playbook.
I wonder if these shitholes were counted in the Trump administrationâs tally of terrorism that affected the United States.
Of course not, they are white.
Now, now, letâs be fair. If these men are entitled to be tried by a jury of their peers, shouldnât we restrict the jury pool to people who have also tried to bomb a mosque?
Well, isnât that specialâdemanding a designer jury!
What? Defense attorneys didnât ask for a change of venue to Harrison, Arkansas? Talk about legal malpractice.
That might make it tough on the prosecutor getting a conviction. How 'bout we start with Cliven Bundy and his two sons. Then add some local patriots.
Would love to sit in on the jury challenges.
Is it just me or has the headline editing been poor recently. This headline made no sense.
How about âJudge Denies Defendants request for Jurors who are Pro-Trumpâ
I think that all juries should be surrounded in the courtroom by gun totinâ real mericanâs âŚ
Cut down on those unnecessary potty breaks â ( wink ⌠wink â
âProsecutors had opposed the menâs request, arguing that defense attorneys were trying to pick a jury pool based on ideology and open âa dangerous doorâ to similar requests in other cases.â
So the 9/11 plotters should be allowed to pick jury pools of Wahhabists?
Got it!
Good to know Republicans are totally on board with this radical, new judicial concept.
The men argue the practice is discriminatory because it excludes western
Kansas counties where more rural, conservative residents live.
I think this captures the Trump base in a nutshellâfeeling aggrieved and persecuted, because they want to be judged only by similar minded racists who believe that bombing apartment complexes should be a second amendment right.
Whatâs astounding here is the (correct?) assumption that Trump voters are okay with this kind of fascistic violence, and would be sympathetic jurors. What have we sunk to?
âwhere trials pull prospective jurors from surrounding, more urban countiesâ
Letâs be clear here: âmore urban countiesâ is a VERY relative statement.
I am having a very hard time with the idea that the jury pool in Wichita is too liberal. It is just about as conservative as any small city in America.
âDefense attorneys noted that prospective jurors who live in southwestern Kansas were twice as likely to have voted for Trump than prospective jurors in the Wichita area.â
Judge: âSo?â
I canât even imagine making this dumb of an argument in front of a judge.
Yes, I stopped when I read that too! I suspect what they mean is that a big part of their defense is that they were just talking about planting a bomb as a way of expressing their views on Somali immigrants. Although many people will tell you that conspiracy charges are too easy to prove, in theory, no charges can be brought against a person who has not taken some kind of action to carry out that conspiracy. Merely talking about doing something is not enough. They think people in southwestern Kansas are more likely to accept an innocent explanation for their (I assume) email correspondence about bombing an apartment complex.
Iâm sick of Jury Nullification.
Judge Denies Pro-Trump Jurors Request By 3 Men Accused In Mosque Bomb Plot
Well, in that case, Your Honor, can we please have our accomplices on the jury?
