Discussion: Judge Denies Nearly 200 Inauguration Protesters' Motions to Dismiss Charges

So… i guess she would also charge all those in the Nazi rally with murder right??? or is this a only if your on the left type of thing.

Charges were filed against both protesters accused of destroying property and attacking police, and those there to document the protest, including journalists and legal observers. Defense lawyers for the accused have called prosecutors’ actions in the case — particularly the blurring of lines between individuals who attacked police and property, and those who merely attended or planned the protest — “unprecedented.”

Very disturbing. And what is the status of the attempts of the DOJ to force the website used to discuss and organize the events to turn over all user information (over a million, if I recall correctly) in the effort to identify around 100-200 individuals suspected of vandalism?

Whatever his true character, Kim faces a problem peculiar to dictators. His power in North Korea is so great that not only does no one dare criticize him, no one dares advise him. If you are too closely associated with the king, your head might someday share the same chopping block. Safer to adopt a “Yes, Marshal” approach. That way, if the king stumbles, you are simply among the countless legion who were obliged to obey his orders. One way to read the confusing signals from Pyongyang in recent years is that they show Kim, isolated and inexperienced, clumsily pulling at the levers of state.

Geez, that all sounds eerily familiar…

So if the reality is that there were nearly 200 protestors, by Donnie’s method of crowd counting there must have actually been 20,000.

How many of those 20,000 were good people?

All bad hombres…

Well, there were fine people on both sides – many, many sides.

As I have said on several occasions, the only Amendment that is still enforced is the 2d. All the other amendments are ignored.

And if you’re black, you don’t have any rights. The state can kill you with impunity.

Free speech ain’t free.

This is all of a piece with the DOJ’s continuing attempts to eliminate protest and criticism. There are laws being looked at in multiple states right now that would attach serious charges including felonies against protesters who happen to be involved or just present at a protest that results in any property damage. Under these laws, if someone protests Trump and a pro Trump supporter hits a car or breaks a window, the anti-Trump supporter can be charged with a felony.

I know a lot of this sounds like the left’s version of “they’re coming to get your guns”, but under the leadership of the current DOJ this kind of prosecutorial over reaction is being encouraged, and they are not going to send in people to look at the local governance like Obama’s DOJ did in Ferguson. They are too busy trying to undo civil rights and prosecute sanctuary cities.

It takes a while, but many of the elements of autocracy are seeping into our society, and a lot of our institutions are working hard to foster them instead of protecting us from them

Draconian is the correct term.

It’s not a stretch what you’re saying. We just have to keep fighting and protesting. It’s why we have to do.

…and they say kangaroo courts couldn’t happen in this country! I guess they’ve never run up against the Sessions/Trump DOJ.

What? The defense wants to review the footage that ostensibly shows their clients committing crimes?! Next they’re going to ask for sworn testimony from witnesses. Where will it end?

Leibovitz criticized defense attorneys in April for their insistence on taking time to review the hundreds of hours of available footage of the protest.

“These will be dragged out until everyone here are grandparents. Unless that is the goal,” she told the Washington Post in April, after a grand jury added even more charges for the then more than 200 charged protesters, including inciting or urging to riot, conspiracy to riot and multiple counts of destruction of property, according to the Post.

So the judge thinks the defendants don’t have right to review all evidence against them because she’s impatient?

You, you I like.

What she’s really impatient for is more promotion. She’s reportedly a good judge…albeit also reportedly one of those annoying judges who like to play tough guy all the time because the power and authority gives her a bit of a tingle…but she’s starting to get long in the tooth and has ridden that bench for a while now. I suspect she’s getting frustrated that she hasn’t been given a federal nomination yet.

She’s not stupid either. Given who is now king, hanging hippies and brownies for protesting their rightful whiteful ruler’s coronation is a sure way of getting him to consider her for an appointment.

Funny you should mention that in light of today’s news:

Faux News is going to have a weekend long boner over it

Appointed by Shrubya, she has a long and well-deserved reputation for being, essentially, a bit of a Nazi.
