Discussion: Judge Appears Skeptical Of Manafort's Civil Lawsuit Against DOJ, Mueller

“Nobody challenges prosecutions under the APA.”

I wouldn’t call that “skeptical.”

I’d call that: “Get your sorry ass out of my courtroom.”

Is there a “directory of really really bad lawyers” that everybody who has ever associated with tRump, the tRump campaign, the tRump WH, and the Executive is required to hire from? Maybe with the possible exception of Kushner?

Manafort is looking a little puffy these days. I guess it is normal to put on weight when sitting around all day making up excuses to try and get out of criminal indictments. Not even a nice try, Pauly.

“Nobody challenges prosecutions under the APA,” Jackson said while questioning Downing. “Do you have case that supports this?”

Downing later said he did not know if he had such a case.

She’s also the one who sentenced Alex van der Zwann yesterday. Her comments in that sentencing hearing do not bode well for Manafort, either.

Wait, all his fancy lawyerin’ is just a big ink-cloud of bullshit? :anguished::anguished::anguished:

Shocked, I am.

How long until his lawyer imitates Emily Litella - ‘Never mind’.

I guess “only the best” applies not only to who Trump hires, but who those people hire also.

It’s like a six degrees of incompetence festival.

That Donald knew nothing about.

Now, Syria…

Oh snap. Judge Amy channeling her best Judge Judy. Go on wit’ your bad self.

This is probably going to be a brutal order. She doesn’t strike me as the kind of judge who does “scathing,” but I don’t know that. But even if she does the “let me show you how ridiculous you were by taking everything you said perfectly seriously and then dispatching it” order, it’s going to be humiliating.

I have not the slightest sympathy for him–and I feel sympathy for Melania for gawd’s sake–but Manafort is never going to flip. Not when Putin went to so much trouble to send him, very personally, a “I won’t just kill you, I’ll kill your daughters” message.

I guess if you’ve got the money for lawyers you throw up any defense no matter how unlikely it is to work.

…for now

Exactly. I was going to post that “skeptical” was an extremely polite word for what the Judge was probably feeling.

This lawsuit is closely bordering if not crossing the line into being frivolous. The premise seems to be that a criminal defendant has some legal right to say which prosecutor within the Justice Department or which unit within the Department may prosecute him or her. No wonder the judge is skeptical—I’m surprised she isn’t considering sanctioning the lawyer who filed this silly motion.

The only defense they have is a whole lotta whining.

I’m starting to think that when Boss Tweet said we’re “going to be sick and tired of winning,” what he really meant was that we’d be sick and tired of all the whining.

A scheduling conflict kept Manafort from using his regular attorneys, Burnham Quick & Hyde.

Currently, he’s using Trump’s recommendation, the legal firm of Dunning & Kruger.

But Putin is said to be pushing his go-to favorites, Kalashnikov Polonium & Novichok.

Sneed had a great writeup in January about Jackson’s frustration with Downing. It’s behind the firewall here, but MSN reprinted it here. I’m going to go ahead and paste two of my favorite moments of candor from Jackson:

(1) “Your position has changed two times since you stood up.”
(2) “I’m not entirely sure how you can say what you just said.”
