“China and Russia are suspected of large-scale spying of the IT networks at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs (Finland). The spying focused on data traffic between Finland and the European Union, and is believed to have continued for four years. The spying was uncovered in spring 2013, and as of October 2013 the Finnish Security Intelligence Service (Supo) was investigating the breach.” Wikipedia.
I have a feeling Finland also lives up Putin’s ass.
“Welcome to the land of the free press."
Well, those security guards certainly did press Husseini pretty hard.
“… and then they threw me to the ground, handcuffed me on my arms, behind my back, and on my legs, threw me in the back of a police vehicle, and took me to the detention center where I was for six hours.
I wasn’t aware that Finland was providing security at Trump’s campaign events.
Unless Sam Husseini is an rank amateur, something is missing from this story.
Fun Fact: Excepting the dignitaries’ personnel security services, all other security expenses are borne by the host country.
…and don’t tell me, Finland didn’t realize they’ll never get that part of their budget back.
Not entirely but they are very close with Russia. Not only do they border but they share a sense of community. Finland is not a member of NATO. It’s the least pleasant place to be in Scandinavia. A bit like Austria or Hungary. The USA should slap a travel ban on them until they assure us they will not do shit like this again.
Finland’s had to struggle to stay intact because of that border. Check out their history.
“Roughed up” by the Finns? C’mon, man.
Finns to the left, Finns to the right?.
Sure. We have thousand-year history of trying not to get killed by them, and often failing. It’s like the love the people of Gaza have for Israelis, except with less protesting and more silent anger.
And not entirely by choice, either.
The Finns are a hockey loving people.
I’ve heard that among other bilateral superpower summits held in Helsinki, it’s not especially uncommon for a hockey game to break out at the final press conference.
I’m not an expert on the region or on the history, but one can get the impression Finland is casual acquaintances with Russia (and the previous Soviet state) so that they were not subsumed entirely. Be friendly enough it’s not worth the effort.
Nobody gives Estonia shit for being a Soviet client state. What were they going to do, say no? Hungary tried that.
Poignantly stated. Thank you.
Trump said Thursday that the “ultimate deal” with Putin would include “no more nuclear weapons anywhere in the world, no more wars, no more problems, no more conflict.”
Like that is going to happen…
I received a fundraising e-mail from The Nation about this. Apparently this guy is a contributor to The Nation, although it is not clear he was working for them at this event. So I don’t think this is his first rodeo.
Under the Trump administration? A great idea, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.
