Discussion: Jorge Ramos Confronts Obama Over Whether He 'Changed His Mind' On Immigration (VIDEO)

Discussion for article #231003

Again it doesnā€™t appear Obama got grilled. Instead The ā€œgrillerā€ got grilled. But we know TPM needs click bait to get out attention/. Obama s the coolest guy on the planet. He never loses his cool even when heā€™s making his point.

Way to go Obama.

Maybeā€¦but there is a larger meme going on here which I think you are missing.

While republicans are seemingly going out of there way to alienate the Hispanic vote, thatā€™s a far cry from Democrats actively bringing them into the fold. They are quite aware that they are being used a political toy right now, and donā€™t particularly appreciate it. Its just that right now, Democrats are slightly better option for them getting the agenda met because republicans would just as soon pack them up and ship them out of the country as listen to them. Witness Paulā€™s rapid retreat from lunch when confronted by brown people.

We had a golden opportunity after 2012 to lock them down hard as Democrats for generations. And instead we let republicans take the spotlight in hopes they would hang themselves. Predictably, they did of course, but that WAS a gamble, and the only ā€œwinā€ was the one we gotā€¦no IR bill passed and republicans looked like the xenophobes they are. That was NOT the victory Hispanics were looking for.

I donā€™t disagree with anything you say, but Obama didnā€™t exactly get ā€œgrilledā€ and I think he did a good job of explaining the realities to Ramos.

Yeah yeah, yeah.

Yes, he is. As I understand it, Obama has carved out a specific group of illegal immigrants for later. He isnā€™t giving them amnesty. All the others still face deportation. So the 2 million that were deported fall into what category?
I also noticed that Obama does that John Wayne thing where he pauses in the middle of sentences and letā€™s the others run together. Harder to be interrupted.

Perhaps itā€™s time for Jorge to start ā€œgrillingā€ Republicans for a permanent immigration fix. After all, Obama wonā€™t be in office forever to heckle and blame for everything. When he leaves the presidency, the exec order will as well.

Itā€™s sad that O even has to explain ā€˜he is not an Emperor and that laws are better than temporary ordersā€™ to a member of the pressā€¦ jeez.

Faker ā€“ any real wingnut would have said ā€œFLAUNTS the Constitution.ā€

Who is Ramos working for? The GOP? Fuck him.

The best shot he has right now is in Obama. Heā€™s bitching about 2 million deportationsā€¦what does he think the number would be if that was President Romney in the chair? God Fucking Damn ITā€¦can we stop beating ourselves up! Fuck Ramosā€¦Obama is the POTUSā€¦the US in that includes Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and other states in which the people want all undocumented deported and they want it to hurt. Obama is their Prez too. Federal authorities recently shut down a vigilante mob that had every intention of shooting folks they deemed ā€œillegalsā€. Maybe Jorge should take a vigilante bullet for the ā€œhome teamā€ and then try that interview again.

Wake the fuck up Ramos. Obama has been threatened with impeachment and assassination for the issuance of Exec Orders intended to keep the families of the undocumented togetherā€¦here in America. And he deserves this shit from a media clown?

Why would he do that? They are not on his side and being a typical Liberal he would rather beat up on his own. Ramos did a HUGE disservice to undocumented families in the USA with this interview. Heā€™s got one guy in DC on his team and he want balls to the wall in shooting him down.

Lets put Ramos in the seat and ask him what he has done to keep families together.

This is about keeping their families togetherā€¦not political conversion.

I wish I could  this a million times.
Well said. +1

Failed attempt to take down POTUS. Obama is much too smooth for that. He would not allow Ramos to talk over him and frame the deportation issue in a deceptive way.

We had a golden opportunity after 2012 to lock them down hard as Democrats for generations. And instead we let republicans take the spotlight in hopes they would hang themselves. Predictably, they did of course, but that WAS a gamble,

The Senate overwhelmingly passed a bill. If the President could have dragged the Speaker along, he would have gotten a fair amount of credit for doing something both major and bipartisan, and the nature of the reform wouldnā€™t have been as politicized (except for maximalist agitators on either end).

Point is, Iā€™m not sure that Obama doesnā€™t get the majority of the credit for shepherding something like that, even if it gets larded with wall building projects for border construction firms. The Republicans end up looking bad either through compromise (on an issue that they were implicitly not supporting) or outright obstruction.

The difference is that the triumphant figure in the instance where Obama issues the same EO in early '13 is Obama himself. And at this point, yes, praise and blame will be concentrated in Obama the man. But it is definitely framing up to be the Democrats acting as a bulwark against Republicans.

So yes, there is probably some resentment from Hispanics who feel like the Democrats are just the less-bad option of the two they are presented with. But thatā€™s hardly a unique position for many political coalitions.
