Isn’t she like the woman (and I use that term loosely) that ran against Senator Reid in Nevada? The problem isn’t this wingnut, it’s the people that elected her/it! C’est triste, n’est pas.
Here’s the thing, though. Clinton is very vulnerable, IMO. She’s a stale commodity; has nothing new to offer. She will find it hard to run against a Christie, a Paul (who will siphon a whack of the anti-war vote), or the Jebster (but not Cruz, I think. She could beat Cruz).
So, if there’s a Republican in the WH and a gaggle of nuts in Congress…well…it will be interesting. Democrats can’t run on what amounts to a third term for Obama because, facts be damned, his brand is tarnished.
The people of Iowa deserve Joni Ernst. Unfortunately, they elected her to the Senate, so we all have to suffer.
The more crazy-town, the less legislation gets passed and the less damage is done. The only thing these numskulls will be able to do his repeal and government shutdown.
I think Progressives and Libruls suffer from cognitive dissonance.
We can’t handle it that a fair portion of Americans (maybe family, friends) are just plain wing nuts, bigots and blind to facts. So we snicker and pretend these winners are ‘anomalies’. Voting Iowans know what Jody is like - they liked it. Wanna see more of it at the national level.
So in other words, she’s a mainstream Republican.
She is the Iowan version of the political Manchurian Candidate, for she espouses views contrary to the fact that she grew up on taxpayer funded farm welfare, she was (=and still is) in the taxpayer funded military, she was a taxpayer funded State Senator, and now she will be a taxpayer funded Federal Senator.
In the future, she will be laughing all the way to the bank with three taxpayer-funded retirements, one from the State, and two from the Feds.
Sarah Palin in a polyester wig. Enjoy her Iowa!
Thanks, Iowa. This is coming from the state that elected Cruz and GohmerPyle.
Just watch her acceptance speech. It says it all. She’s one part Bachmann, one part Stepford and one part “that boss at work who smiles as she stabs you in the back.”
Wall Street doesn’t trust Christie and can’t understand Paul. Main Street won’t stand for Christie’s belligerence and Paul’s tone deaf approach to people not like him. racist prick, too.
Hillary won’t bring liberal nirvana and no one else will, either. But Hil can get on base. She can hit walk or bunt her way into the White House. She has an infrastructure behind her that can operate the government in a responsible and effective manner. If she picked E. Warren as her running mate I think they would crush.
Okay, I think that this article makes an excellent case that this politician might have a screw loose.
My only issue is that I think that any list of reasons should be bulletproof…nothing that doesn’t point clearly to the conclusion.
Item 6, about climate change is weak: A “vague” initial response? Most politicians give vague answers when allowed to. Admitting “our climate is changing” is certainly reasonable.
“…I’m not sure what the impact of man is upon that climate change,” may look bad–given who she is–but let’s be honest: lots of scientists would allow that they can’t be “sure what the impact of man is.”
And saying one hasn’t seen “undeniable proof” that climate change is “entirely man-made” may be disingenuous, but I’m not sure it’s “entirely man-made” nor is that the question…
climate change doesn’t need to be “entirely man-made” to be a problem that we need to address like grown-ups. If 10% of it is part of some natural cycle, who gives a damn? We still need to address what humans can do to slow our contribution to climate change.
Joni got a gun…"We’re looking at Obamacare right now. Once we start with those benefits in January, how are we going to get people off of those? It’s exponentially harder to remove people once they’ve already been on those programs…we rely on government for absolutely everything. And in the years since I was a small girl up until now into my adulthood with children of my own, we have lost a reliance on not only our own families, but so much of what our churches and private organizations used to do. They used to have wonderful food pantries. They used to provide clothing for those that really needed it. But we have gotten away from that. Now we’re at a point where the government will just give away anything.”
Daniel, you’re pushing it with her comments on climate change. She admits the climate is changing and then accurately suggests she hasn’t seen proof that that change is entirely man-made. That’s true – no climatologist would say we have proof that it’s entirely man-made.
Is she being weaselly? Yes. Is that Inhofe-level crazy? Not even close.
Agreed. If keeping repubs out of power is not a good enough motivation, I don’t know what would be.
and……
She won. Pointing out the crazy just makes these people more popular and famous in the GOP base.
Thanks to all who didn’t vote.

I’ll go with Oregon’s statistics instead of the NYT, we had 69% turn out. Nothing earth shattering but since we are entirely vote by mail the Kochs have yet to finger out a means of suppressing the vote here.
As for Joni Ernst I fear she is Bachmann on steroids. And will be there for six years to remind Iowans of what happens when teh crazy overwhelms judgement.
No. It doesn’t matter how many people vote. It matter how people vote. Iowa, in spite of surprisingly going for Obama in both elections, is a backward ag state. While turn out is important, it wouldn’t matter if so many Americans weren’t so stupid. Too many Americans in the Midwest and the South are simply too dumb to be participating in the political process. And because there is little attraction for educated and thoughtful people to live in these places, they will remain mired in shit politics.
My apologies sjk…I did not see the quotation marks at the end of your post, So I’ll leave my comment up but it’s now directed at Joni Baloney…not you.
We do? A little hyperbole can go a long way for those who choose to not actually think or examine statements like yours. The GOTP thinks that the use of hyperbole gives them the best bang for a Koch buck. You a GOTP marketing casualty??
I thought one of George W. Bush’s key initiatives was to outsource compassion based programs to churches and private organizations, did he fail at that too?
Here in Oregon we are not as religious as the rest of the country but we do have many private organizations that provide aid and assistance to those in need. Problem is that there are more in need today that can be properly cared for. The Bush era recession greatly expanded the number of family’s receiving SNAP, Unemployment and TANF benefits. The goal of these programs is to get their recipients on track to become taxpayers again, and they have been moderately successful.
About 35% of the people receiving benefits are receiving benefits they paid into like Social Security and Medicare. Others receive benefits because when our country called we put our lives on the line. Some did not return home. Are you all worked up because their spouses and children are provided for?
Just as benefits to lower income and even middle class families has increased so have “tax expenditures” accrued to the wealthiest citizens. The benefits are now somewhere north of $1.2 trillion a year.
Here…try and read the entire article and not just the parts that fit your narrative.
Life during a “War Economy”, declared or undeclared places burdens on all of us. Why should those at the lower end of the ladder bear all the suffering?
