There are no constitutional or other legal precedents confirming that marriage, which is strictly a legal arrangement, must be a heterosexual union. Marriage, as some “clever” religious zealots are trying to argue, does not exist primarily as a procreative union. Current laws defining marriage this way are based entirely on Abrahamic religious tradition. Religious laws, at least in the West, do not trump civil laws.
