Discussion: Joining High Court, The Real Neil Gorsuch Set To Stand Up

Pfft–puff piece. “Demonizing”??? Really, AP??; really? For all intents and purposes, he’s now the “Republican Judge”. The court is a political game now. No majesty left. How long before rulings are ignored as being mere political opinion?

First up- renaming the House of Reps to ‘State Duma’.

After every 5-4 decision with Gorsuch as the deciding vote, Dems should be screaming and pointing to this as a result of Republican cheating and gaming the system.

He’s Clarence Thomas; don’t fool yourself.

Gorsuch came down against a truck driver who was fired for leaving his trailer of meat on the side of an Illinois road after breaking down on a frigid night in 2009 and fearing he would freeze to death. Asked whether the man’s firing wasn’t absurd, Gorsuch said simply: “My heart goes out to him. It’s just not my job.”

“I was just doing my job.”

We’ve heard that one before.

Ya think?

Republicans are anti-American. Plain and simple.

I will support Gorsuch when he is able to explain, to my reasonably well educated (on the subject of deconstruction to find tropes in writing ) satisfaction, how he can accurately interpret the meaning constitution, knowing the mind of a 250 year old writer. I want to know how he managed to acculturate as an 18th century political thinker. When he does that I will take back my opinion, which is that he is a bald faced liar.

Gorsuch et al paid more than $10 million for the seat - that says it all - he will be supporting, as in the past, his corporate sponsors. He is okay with someone freezing to death – to the point he felt compelled to write about it; he is okay with “throwing away” a child with autism just because.

When you think if is okay to pay for a seat on the Supreme Court – says it all.

The makings of an Illegitimate SCOTUS.
The Supreme Court is now officially a “Political Body.” For most of our history the Court was not political. While the makeup of the court has always “leaned left” or “leaned right” depending on the judicial philosophy of those who made up the court it has until recently not been blatantly aligned with a political party.

The courts willingness to choose a president in Bush v Gore was an initial step into partisan politics. Their rulings in Citizens United and in the Voting Rights cases moved the court further toward the institutionalization of the politicization of The Court.
Subsequently the Republicans conspired to pack the court by refusing to consider a legitimate nomination to The Court by a sitting President. This refusal was followed by their manipulation of the rules of the Senate to illegitimately confirm a Justice to The Court who otherwise could not have been approved under the long standing rules of the Senate.

We now, for the first time in our history find ourselves with a court that will be identified with the partisan label of the RSCOTUS .(Republican Supreme Court of the United States)

We live in parlous times. Our only hope is that Democrats rise up and take the government back in the 2018 elections. That is if RSCOTUS even allows the election to take place.

Were the confirmation hearings better planned and executed I would have liked to have heard answers to the following:

  1. The law is the law here, but do you think that tragic outcome is one our society should be proud of? (Expect no here)

  2. If the courts are not to take the human impact of such self-inflicted sociological failures into account, would you expect lawmakers to do so? How could a lawmaker far removed from the case even anticipate such an occurrence?

  3. If not the responsibility of the law nor the courts, how would you propose the United States become a more just society?

I suspect his true feelings are: tough shit, tragedy happens. But he got away with caging it as “that is not the job of the courts” without using his “brilliant” legal mind to propose just on whose shoulders that responsibility should lie.

More precisely he is the unholy love child of Scalia and Thomas. Or Alito and Thomas if necrophiliac homosexual reproduction is a step too far for you.
