Note to self: Don’t piss off John Oliver.

Good segment with many valid criticisms, and of course Trump should never be president. But the one point of Oliver’s which fell flat for me was the notion that Cruz and Rubio are better because at least we know what they’ll do, while Trump is incoherent. The problem is that we know Cruz and Rubio’s policies will be uniformly terrible! How is “you never know whether you will get a box of candy or a bag of shit” worse than “you know that you will always get a bag of shit”?

I didn’t hear that the same way as you do. I heard that voters are better off knowing what a candidate’s plans are, than assuming them to be something on which the candidate’s spoken out of both sides of his mouth.

Make Donald Drumpf Again.

A long clip, but worth every second of it.

According to Google Translate, the German words “Drumpf” and “Trumpf” are interchangeable each with the other as well as with the word “Flugzeugrumpf”.

Make Donald Drumpt Again, Or At Least Flugzeugrumpf.

Call Himf Flugzeugrumpf Or Else Call Himf Drumpfilstiltskin And Be Donfe with himf.

Brilliant. Unfortunately, the people who need to see this won’t.

Like Jon Stewart, when Oliver does an accurate take-down, the “true believers” just say, "Well he’s a comedian,"as if that removes the truth of it all.

but at the very least, it will annoy trump.

Do you think he met “better” in the way you suggest? He obviously thinks their policies are terribly.

To use your analogy I think he was saying that with Cruz/Rubio you’re going to get a bag of shit. With Trump you may get a unicorn, a bag of shit or a nuclear Holocaust. We just have no idea. I see the sense in that position.

Indeed. As is the Chrome extension. It makes everything less stressful to see “Drumpf”.

Sad day in America when a British comedian vets a presidential candidate far better than the 4th estate.

Sure, but the best minds tend to go where they can flourish, and with traditional journalism like a drought-parched desert the best minds are finding new venues. What Oliver did was take the content of a first-rate long-form opinion piece and make it wildly entertaining. He often does that, delving into stories as deeply as any of the best journalists. But this way he can make jokes and say what he thinks and have fun and make ten times the money he’d have made at a newspaper. At the moment we’re in a media world that’s exactly parallel to “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” and the political comedians are the little boy who’s pointing and saying what he’s actually seeing. And me, I’m happy about it. Somebody needs to.

I guess Trump REALLY will not be going on Oliver’s no-guest show now.

I saw it as more of a question of:

  1. You know you’re getting a bag of shit (which you can now do you best to avoid); or
  2. You never know when that shit is going to end up in your food.

But yeah, Ted Cruz would probably be worse for America than Drumpf.

The real question is: Why does it take a comedian to do this? Shouldn’t the media have done an adequate job of telling us this for, idk, 6 months? I’m pretty well informed and didn’t know a lot of his stuff. The Daily Show and LWT have better journalism than all of the news channels combined!

Just watched it while having lunch. Powerful. Just powerful.

Watch it twice, it’s that good.

Right up there with the Tabbi piece on Drumpf, which is definitely worth reading:
