Discussion for article #238994
If DC was a bastion of White Conservatives, the Republicans would be falling all over themselves to get it statehood. Instead, they are desperate to keep it voteless and disenfranchised- like they’re trying to do with every minority and Liberal in this country.
I can’t figure out why Wyoming’s 585K people get voting representation in Congress while D.C.'s 660K don’t.
I mean, other than the average melanin quotient in the latter population, that is.
D.C, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, and the US Virgin Islands should all be granted statehood.
“Well let’s all kick out Florida 'cuase no one thinks there great!”
are you suggesting 5 states, or 1?
Would probably need to group Guam, American Sumoa and any other Pacific Territories into one state, Puerto Rico* and the American Virgin Islands into one, and D.C. into one in order to get populations comparable to existing states.
*Puerto Rico would be fine on its own, but the Virgin Islands would be a bit under populated to be admitted on their own. Either that or let the people in each area decide what they want to do; independent country or statehood.

Puerto Rico is actually larger than 22 US states in terms of population.
Yes, that is why I said Puerto Rico would be fine on its own. My point was that the American Virgin Islands at ~100,000 people or a little over a sixth the population of Wyoming are a bit underpopulated to be their own US state. So we might want to add them in as part of Puerto Rico if we are trying to turn all current US non-State holdings into States. Same with lumping the various Pacific island holdings into one big State, as they are all a little light population wise when looked at on an individual basis.
