I hope there are some loud demonstrators in the crowd.

While it is sad that the Liar-in-chief, the ultimate self-serving, opportunistic con-man to be in the oval office, I completely understand and respect Rep. Lewis absence from this event.

Being around DT must be like being mentally trapped in an outhouse.

This is a good response to any attempt by Trump to insert himself into any event or situation that honors people in our country who have sacrificed and fought to make it better and more just. But, Representatives Lewis and Thompson better prepare for some mean tweets, since they laughed off the WH silly statement.

We think it’s unfortunate that these members of Congress wouldn’t join the President […]

You may think it’s unfortunate, Ms. Sanders. The rest of us think it’s telling.

I think Lewis’ no-show undermines the tremendous dignity that Trump has brought to the WH at every juncture.

Yeah. It would be like sitting in church with dog poop on your shoe.

Perhaps Roy Moore can give an oral history there!

“This White House is not serious about civil rights,” Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-LA) said in a statement.

Wrong. This White House is dead fucking serious about eliminating civil rights for everyone who is not a white, christianist, conservative, straight, rich male.

Actually, that’s not a bad idea. You know, to show how racist white power Southerners hid their opposition to civil rights in promoting a bogus Biblical rationale for “States’ Rights”.

GOOD FOR THEM!

John Lewis is a true American hero, a pillar of the struggle for equality that is–or should be–the foundation of this nation. Donald Trump is a friend to bigots. And likely a bigot himself.*

*I say “likely a bigot,” because Trump has no real beliefs, he thinks and says what is convenient at the moment.

I hope he’s greeted by a sea of white faces, some hooded, maybe a small army dressed in white polo shirts and tan khakis — and not a black face within a mile.

There was a pithy quote in this morning’s Washington Post saying the “museum is just an attempt to make white people feel better.” Another said that the museum isn’t for people of color, noting most of the people of Jackson couldn’t even afford the $8 entry fee.

And if anyone is wondering why the museum would invite the most appalling, divisive, white supremacist figure in America to celebrate this event, here’s the face of the person who extended the invitation:

Republican Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant.

Nuff said.

“We think it’s unfortunate that these members of Congress wouldn’t join the President in honoring the incredible sacrifice civil rights leaders made to right the injustices in our history,”

Galling, even for this crew.

“these members of Congress” are the very civil rights leaders intended to be honored.

It’s as if when they opened President Obama’s presidential Library, and Trump insisted on showing up and then Obama decided not to, followed by a White House statement…

“We think it’s unfortunate that this former President wouldn’t join the President in honoring the incredible life, legacy and historical significance of the first black President of the United States,”

ETA: perhaps this is one of the White House’s classic outrageous statements made just hours before another announcement from Robert Mueller’s team

Oh yeah! Some more of these dropping would be a good thing:

I would love to hear about Mueller releasing an indictment aimed directly at trump. Money laundering, collusion, obstruction to name just three possibilities.

The WH can go suck an egg up its ass.

Representatives Lewis and Thompson… Thank you both for using the backbones you were born with.

OT Evidently Comrade Cockholster is now as popular with Germans as he is with American Civil Rights icons.

ICYMI Canada made a similar denunciation in October.

I am sad that these two courageous men have had this day stolen from them. It’s their museum, and on its opening day it has been taken hostage by a racist asshole using it as a backdrop for his flame throwing. Who thought this crass display of cynicism by lardass was a good idea?

I’d rather hear NY Atty. Gen. Schneiderman make an announcement — of state charges!

@hoagie Hopefully it’ll be really hot and the humidity will wreak havoc on his Polident Dentu-Creme.

I would too.

For Robert Mueller this investigation will be his masterpiece. Like any of the great works it starts with Foundation and that paint must dry before you paint the main subject in the foreground. In all the great works the patience and time are what separates the masterpieces from the rest.

I look forward to seeing his finished work

Trump would be at the museum checking out the rifle that Byron De La Beckwith used to murder Medgar Evers and defend his Second Amendment rights.
