I only disagree with calling this situation mischevious. Mischief is generally what you imagine pixies and fairies to get up to in a Shakespearean play. Secretary Kerry isn’t playing here.

He has always been a pretty great tactician in the Senate, learning at the feet of the Lion. If you have someone of the skillset of Ted Kennedy teaching you how to see a weakness and exploit it, you do it. And that’s what he did.

It’s a one-two punch straight to the 'nards of the Benghazipalooza.

Boehner won’t, and likely can’t.

He won’t because there’s this weird wingnut sense of ‘purity’ surrounding the coming Gowdy circus, and there’s a chance it’ll avoid debasing that and itself before Congress formerly declares the sabbatical they’ve effectively been on since Republican leadership miscalculated in dropping the shutdown and their faux filibustering on the debt limit increase in favor of cheereleading the failure of the initial sign-up phase for Obamacare.

He can’t because too much of the House Republican Caucus still hasn’t formally ceded even the outcome of the Civil War. The hard-cased filbert and walnut components of the conservative movement count their chews in terms of centuries, not mere months.

Someone earlier referred to Issa and Gowdy as “sewer rats”! Stop insulting sewer rats. Actually rats are very intelligent unlike ass-hats Issa & Gowdy, who probably have less brains than any chicken.

Can someone explain to me how the issue of the anti-Muslim video has been so successfully turned into an albatross around the State Dept’s neck? If the email to YouTube exists, in my mind that only proves that it was an actual, valid concern that the State Dept was taking seriously and, in the immediate wake of the tragedy in Libya, became the explanation of primary motive, if only for a few days. Why would Issa want this email declassified? Wouldn’t it at least bolster the credibility of the original talking point that the video was incendiary?

Can someone tell me what I’m missing?

The perpetrators are in benghazi. They and only they, are responsible for the death of the people that died that night. And as for trusting the gop? Its to late for anyone to trust that this new bengazhi committee is nothing more then a political ploy designed to keep a dead issue alive. Only republican and tea party members will believe this crap.
So no. Republicans can not and should not be trusted.

I’m more cynical than Sahil is of Issa’s motives and less cynical of Kerry’s.

Issa may be a little worried that any revelations from Gowdy’s headline hunt “would cast doubt on Issa’s capabilities.” But everything we know about the guy says he’s mostly concerned about losing the limelight. And let’s be real about it: There’s no reason to believe Gowdy’s headline hunt will turn up one bit of substantive “evidence” because this has proved to be nothing but a manufactured crisis, since Romney created it with his crass Sept. 11, 2012, press release.

Kerry, meanwhile, was confronted with a actual dilemma. Which damned kangaroo court is he supposed to hop over to? I’m sure the administration finds it fun and fitting to shove that dilemma right back into the face of the Grand Old Anti-American party. But he truly is going beyond duty by responding to Issa’s request; it’d be a dereliction to spend more of his valuable time on Gowdy’s expedition.

Would it not be cleverer to testify before the newbs of the select committee, and diss the rubes of the Issa committee? It’s a tough call.
