What can I say? The GOP debates are the universe’s gift to fact-less pundits and political hacks whose, seemingly, only talent is the unbridled ability to publish limitless speculative column inches on the flimsiest of observable data and evidence.
exactly if the republicons had the least bit of common sence they would have had huntsman as the presidential nominee and romer as VP…but they went with mittens and well Im glad they did
TRUTH
Kasich is by far the most rational clown in the car. And therefore unelectable at the primary level.
I keep warning you–this is the guy for Dems to fear. He is the one who could win independents in a general election, could make it close in the 10 or so swing states that will decide 2016.
But only if the GOP primary voters care about winning the general election.
Wait, Godot (R-WY) is running too??
Maybe, maybe not. In the general, the candidate with the winning hand is the one whom the majority of Americans can point to and say (rightly or wrongly), “X is the answer to Z problem facing us now.”
What is Kasich the answer to, or would be the answer to in 15 months? Being the “more adult less ass-holish Republican” would be a winning hand only if the majority were strongly inclined to vote R anyway. Or if we’re in a serious economic slump. Otherwise, he’s got nothing. At most he puts, for as long as he can keep that mask on, a more genial face of the GOP.
Of course I agree, but you’ve got to hand it to him, he was able to dodge the question and come out looking like he said something profound.
I at least give Megyn Kelly a little credit for trying to cut through the applause and confront him by saying that he wasn’t actually answering her question.
Next, HRC or Bernie Sanders could demolish this answer by simply responding “Did you notice he didn’t answer the question? Of course he would love a lesbian daughter! But he still has no answer as to how he would explain to her that he would discriminate against her rights because of her sexuality!”
Finally, one thing Ms. Marcotte forgot to mention is the fact that Gov. Kasich was on home field in Ohio. There is a good chance that those comments wouldn’t have even went over very well in other debate arenas.
The Overton Window has moved, but guess what, Kasich wouldn’t be the nominee in a million years.
Nicely done at any rate, Ms. Marcotte. Who would think that Lee Atwater could be a friend to reason after all these years. Astonishing.
That’s why I always said to my daughter before putting her to bed, “You’re no good and worthless, but I love you anyway. Good night!” I was emulating God.
I disagree, he stated “So if one of my daughters happened to be that, of course I would love them and I would accept them” but not a word about acceptance outside of his immediate family.
I have family members like that, they claim they love their child who is gay but have always just tolerated his partner. They turn their backs to his friends. Recently when he fell and suffered head trauma and is currently in a comma they have not batted an eye when the local Catholic Hospital, in PA, will not allow his partner of over 20 years into his room. Nearly the entire clan is currently angry with me because I have told them that until they recognize my cousins partner and his rights they need not contact me, ask me for help, etc. Yea a piss poor stand to take but one I felt is needed.
I got yer rabbit ears right here.
First off, the Republicans tie themselves into these knots that they then have to untie and try to straighten out. I give them no credit because none is due.
Secondly, they react to the Democrats calling them out and shaming them and when they try to change their position, they will get nailed for that too.
No one is mentioning some of the governing BS that Kasich tried early on and failed but still he tried. Now, because he failed and has learned to moderate some he is considered moderate. Which is wholly/holy horseshit. He is a flip flopper that can’t be trusted and his record is the proof.
He isn’t for gay marriage, he basically says that he could stomach sitting through their disgusting wedding because God is watching. This is wack religious ideology and moralizing substituting for humanity and real reason.
The GOP may run with his clouded reasoning but that doesn’t mean that they have changed one iota, in fact it means that they are doing the same-o same-o and trying to paper over their losing, backwards, outdated, higher than thou bigotry.
So, new salesman, same box of shit.
If, in fact, Kasich supporters are attempting to hold on to their beliefs while professing “understanding”, Cruz/Trump supporters have no such dilemma.
If Republicans were to nominate Kasich and he were to be elected, there would need to be a huge increase in the FAA budget, to manage the added air traffic from pigs flying.
I think Fox did hedge their bets with him. They changed the debate polls to make sure he made it to the big boys stage.
Lee Atwater , messaging from Hell’s fiery pit:
To the last, I grapple with thee; From Hell’s heart, I stab at thee; For hate’s sake, I spit my last breath at thee
Dude’s spirit stalks the Republican Halls at night
I don’t buy that. Huntsman was a child of great privilege and bred for civility. He was, by all accounts, a good ambassador to Singapore in his early days, earning considerable respect. It helped him get the trade rep job, Although he didn’t stay long in the China job, he set the mold for Gary Locke.
Kasich, in contrast, was a childhood fan of Nixon. And like Nixon, he lies…a lot. I don’t recall Huntsman having a similar mendacious streak. Moreover, Kasich worked(s?) for Fox and Lehman Brothers. Nixon, of course, got pretty far lying to the American people, so there’s that. Even with Fox packaging, adept handlers and tons of money, I would expect Kasich to break the bullshit meter.
I’m with you on that. I realize he is not the same guy, but he seems to be playing the reasonable role in this particular election, which gets him nowhere. I do realize that he’s not much different than the rest of the people he stood on stage with.
Actually Walker got the race question, not Carson. Though it came up asecond time towards the end of the debate.
Not that Ms. Marcotte is a stickler for being accurate.
