Discussion: John Kasich's Gay Marriage Maneuver Was A Gift To The GOP

Discussion for article #239194

Kasich is the new John Huntsman. Unless he has some considerable money behind him, I predict he won’t last very long.

The entire Kasich performance was the Republican establishment repudiating the last, what, 30 years of culture war (if it gets them the WH)…odd with majority candidate support for personhood.

And like Huntsman, if Republican primary voters only had the sense to nominate him, he would be big trouble for Democrats.

Could be, but it does seem like he’s the Fox candidate. It will be interesting to see how much more air time he gets on Fox, especially after getting good reviews for his performance (I hope someone tracks that cuz I certainly don’t have the stomach for it).

Kasich is the only Republican I could see myself taking a second look at. It’s the same story – if the Republicans want to win, nominate someone who attracts people like me instead of alienating us. That’ll happen right after Godot gets here.

You got it in one!!! If the teabaggers were living in the actual world that the majority of us live in, Kasich would give the GOP a very strong hand. The baggers just see him as another establishment RINO who won’t live up to Rump’s promise of world domination.

When I think of it . . . all these years . . . but for me . . . where would you be . . .

Kasich, Christie, Walker, Bush, the billionaires would appreciate lightening hitting any or all.

So if one of my daughters happened to be that, of course I would love
them and I would accept them. Because you know what? That’s what we’re
taught when we have strong faith.

No, Kasich, that is what decent people do, and people of strong faith don’t own decency. In fact, Kasich, do you deny that there a large fraction of people of strong faith in the US who would still refuse to attend a gay wedding (or even bake a cake for one)?

But I wouldn’t want equal rights regarding end of life decisions or family planning or spousal decisions or asset dispersion or minor child issues or … or … or —

On CBS This Morning, he equated marriage equality with God’s “unconditional love for things that are not good.”
How white of him.

Kasich is definitely the proverbial “wolf in sheep’s clothing”. I wouldn’t trust him to watch my house much less be President of the US. Hell, I wouldn’t trust him to be a good dogcatcher!

I still think the wording is odd. If one believes in homosexuals getting married it does not mean they do not believe in heterosexual marriage. Saying one believes in one and it sort of occludes the other is just an odd statement.

Of all the candidates in the Republican field Kasich is the one Hillary should fear. He is a gifted politician. He has a lot of experience on television. He is a governor. He can come off as reasonable. He knows how to publicize fights with some on the right for his benefit. He is not a Clinton or Bush.

The base will probably hate him, but i can see why he is the guy being promoted by Ailes and Fox News/Republican Party.

CBS political coverage was better when the CIA produced it.

The MSM is trying to make the case that he is a moderate, responsible, “cloth coat Republican” with mainstream appeal. Kasich’s name came up repeatedly with Matthews, Maddow, etc when it appeared that he might be excluded from the debate. They seem to be pulling for Kasich and Walker. Both of these reptiles are serious threats to our country should they gain the White House, especially with Congress in GOP hands.

He never worked in his life. First employment out of college was as a politician. He retired after many years in Congress, losing his shot at the nomination for Prez in late nineties. Been milking his political connections ever since including Lehman employment. His current reign as Governor has seen him reward everybody but the schools and working people, with tax shifting bull shit that is resulting to school district destruction while gifting the wealthy with tax cuts.

The idea that John Kasich seems moderate next to the rest of that rat pack says more about the Republican Party than it does about him. Also, I thought Jon Huntsman was kinda creepy. Kasich isn’t so much creepy as he is dour and prickly. It’s probably now a race between him and Rubio for veep, since the GOP operatives will be trying to count to 270 and Florida and Ohio have to be part of that calculation.
