Discussion: John Cornyn: Ted Cruz Only Came To The Senate 'To Run For President'

This was obvious from the jump.

Actually, Obama did this too, but his behavior while he was in the Senate was the total opposite of Cruz’s. He rolled up his sleeves and went to work, and formed alliances within the party (the biggest difference between he and Sanders’s campaign, since they come off like that’s beneath them). Cruz showed up and started grandstanding everywhere.

It’s newsworthy because it’s a rare morsel of candor from a Republican.

“Big Bad John” Cornyn last had an original thought c. 1978, but at least he understands how the Senate works. Cornyn is a slow-witted idelaogue who represents a lot of what’s gone wrong in Washington, but at least he’s not an arsonist trying to burn the place down – he’s much too comfortable there.

Just curious but does anyone know how it’s been since Ted has shown up for his day job?

I mean, it’s not like anything gets done in Congress these days but he IS still collecting his salary and benefits, isn’t he?

This actually gets to the heart of what is happening in Texas GOP politics right now. Ted Cruz is intensely popular with the GOP base, but John Cornyn hates him (and by all accounts, as does Greg Abbott). Big Bad John Cornyn is the Texas GOP. He owns it. No one gets to office without his say so. His political machine is unimaginably powerful here. And I think there is a very real chance he is preparing to turn it against Cruz in 2018 in the senate primaries. He might turn it against him in the general and let a Democrat in if it is someone he thinks he can work with. The question is, will John Cornyn’s machine be as successful with the actual voters as it has been in the past. There is good reason to believe that Ted Cruz is going to be a one term senator.

Cruz: Why don’t people listen to Cornyn? This is another example of establishment hating me. In fact, everyone hates me, including my(?) daughters.

That rebel Cornyn just does not like the establishment candidate.

The thought bubble over his head would say, “I’d rather get bitten by a viper than see Cruz as president.”

Intramural violence!!

SHAWTZ FAH-ERD! SHAWTZ FAH-ERD!

Cornyn:

[“One thing, it’s pretty dumb politics for a Republican to choose between Republicans in a contested primary because obviously you’re going to be offending some people.”]

Trump, on the other hand, will simply be offending CORNYN (along with most everyone else).

In a fascist dictatorship, there is only ONE honcho…and, with Cornyn’s dismissal of one of the two remaining people with any chance to stop this would-be dictator, you will be enabling the ascension to power of that person.

This is the problem with states rights racists. They revel in their state-rights success in denying rights to people they despise…all the while working the rules of government and the MSM to produce a person who is the ANTITHESIS of “states-rights”.

Has ANY hillbilly ever checked to see if either Hitler or Mussolini or Tojo believed in “small government”?

DOOFUS!!!

LOL. The Incrementalist blowhard Cornyn. Part of the #47 Traitors. Part of the SCOTUS nominee GOP stonewall, the 450 Filibusters under Obama. Yeah, Cornyn is a real reasonable establishment guy…

I hope you are right.
What got Cruz elected is the base of the base, the crazy Apostolics that Perry courted. I just don’t think Cornyn has the ballz to torpedo a GOP candidate in the general even if it is Cruz.
