How about we rename the highest mountain in Ohio, Mt. McKinley?

Nah, Boehner is holding out to name it for himself.

In any case, I love how the President is really screwing with the GOP’s mindset. He can do this without any input from him and they can’t do a damned thing about it.

I guess the objection is that it sounds too African for them. And, of course, it serves as a distraction for all the other more important things that face the nation that Boehner and his ilk can’t be bothered to deal with.

How 'bout we use it to rename the mountain of corporate lobbyist checks on Boehner’s desk every month to pass out to his caucus?

Boehner’s statement is as mild as could be. Clearly, he could care less about this and only issued the statement because he’s the most prominent member of Congress representing Ohio, McKinley’s home state. McKinley’s administration wasn’t particularly memorable, and the Spanish-American War, which was instigated and fought under his Presidency, is hardly one of this country’s brighter moments. I doubt anyone would put him on the list of the top 10 Presidents, and he’s largely remembered today as the guy who’s assassination made Teddy Roosevelt President.

None of those things have anything to do with Alaska or that mountain.

As a consolation, Obama will rename the tallest peak in the lower 48 “Mount Whitey”

There’s something about the good news on restoring “Denali” that makes me very, very happy. It’s a fine gesture, a sign of respect, and a good thing. Thank you, Mr. President.

isn’t the tallest mountain in Ohio a tire fire in Akron?

PS to Boehner…

most of the rest of the country is disappointed in you as a useless hack and a leach on the national budget as you continue to draw pay for doing nothing except go on vacation…

Did he cry, too? What about state rights? Alaska and even their GOP representatives agree that the mountain should be renamed to its traditional name.

Translation: rest assured, hillbillies, any time there’s an opportunity for Republicans to choose between native people and a white guy, we will choose the white guy.

…and then he burst into tears.

I wonder what the Northern Athabascan phrase is for “The Incompetent Inebriated One Who Cries Like Baby”?

The tallest hill in Ohio is in Bellfontaine, OH and it’s got a parking lot close to the summit. It tops out somewhere near 1500 feet.

hahaha… that reads like a book report i’d have done in the 5th grade…
i’m disappointed – the least boehner could do is call for congressional hearings – and hold them in ohio… but at least kasich now has an issue he can run on.

Boehner’s comment was almost proforma. He had to make it, but didn’t make it with any enthusiasm. Denali is what the residents of Alaska call the mountain. That is what the rest of us should call it.
