Discussion: Joe Scarborough: Killing By Israel Appears To Be ‘Indiscriminate’

Discussion for article #225787

Scarbs will be warned/suspended/fired quickly, while MSNBC apologizes profusely to anyone claiming outrage and butthurt.

(CNN will reflexively apologize also)

I believe that Israel is trying to provoke Gazans to use the types of suicide bombings they swore off in 2005. So far Hamas has not taken the bait.

If you look at this conflict there have only been 2 Israeli civilians killed. This is intentional on Hamas part.

When Hamas soldiers have gone out from the tunnels they have been careful to kill only Israeli soldiers. This is completely different from what Israeli propaganda suggests the tunnels are for. The only other use of the tunnels is for bomb shelters and for storing supplies.

The rockets Hamas has been launching are their inefficient home made sugar rockets - which are unlikely to hit a target and very likely to be shot down. They are just sending these up to show Israel they are defiant and will fight back.

Israel has been engaging in massive lies about their actions. Watch how their spokesman falls apart under a real reporters questioning.

This was in regards to the first massive school massacre which Israel tried blaming on Hamas.
Yesterday UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon condemned Israel after the UN investigation made it clear Israel was responsible for the attack:

“Nothing is more shameful than attacking sleeping children"

It’s possible to be against Israeli tactics without portraying Hamas as ethically superior or morally just in matters of warfare.

How quickly Scar is forced to back down, and how far, will be a reasonably precise indication of just how much Israeli interests dictate American discourse on Palestine/Gaza. My guess: very fast, very far, very much.

It’s also possible that the facts that MH has provided are objective and speak for themselves.

I’m sorry, but the facts are that Hamas has greatly moderated their actions over the last 8 years. Though this is little reported, even Israeli intelligence admits this is true:

But the main reason for the reduction in terrorist acts over the past year is the truce in the territories, as partial as it may be. The fact that Hamas, in general, stopped engaging in terror activities changed the picture. The Islamic Jihad network in the West Bank upgraded its capability and was responsible for the murder of 23 Israelis in 2005, but during that time, Hamas - the leading terror organization in recent years - has scaled back its engagement in terror. Next up, Joe will look outside his studio and proclaim the sky appears to be bluish and it also appears our studio is transmitting my irrelevant deep thoughts over the air.

The first chinks in Israel’s armor are starting to appear.

I don’t remember MH making the kind of value judgments you are implying- that would be your interpretation of the facts he presented. It’s possible to argue about these things without resorting to such cheap tricks. I know, because I use them sometimes.

No, facts don’t always speak for themselves. That’s just an idiom that sometimes applies, sometimes doesn’t.

“According to Gallup, these are the percentages of Americans who support the Israeli position, grouped by age: 55 percent of those over 65; 53 percent of those between 50 and 64; 36 percent of those 30-49; and just 25 percent of those 18-29.”

When he’s right, he’s right. It’s just such a very rare occurrence.

“[A]s Palestinian terrorism from the West Bank has declined drastically – the Israelis have intensified their theft of Palestinian land. Those settlements deeply hurt, rather than help, Israel’s security – because they alienate most of her allies, exacerbate bitterness and suspicion, and make the possibility of a two-state solution moot. You could secure the West Bank by military outposts if you wanted. But Israel is committed to engineering the demography of the place by settlements of religious fanatics of the sort Sam would usually excoriate. Netanyahu, we now know, would rather release hundreds of prisoners convicted of murdering Jews than remove a single brick from the West Bank settlements. It’s really not about security at all. It’s about race and religion in their ugliest zero-sum manifestations. Just because it isn’t as bad as Hamas doesn’t excuse it.”

Israel is very much damaging itself when someone like Joe is critical of their actions.

"The joke in Congress was anytime I wanted a key to the city of Tel
Aviv, I could, you know, get a gold-plated one,” Scarborough said on
“Morning Joe.”

The “joke” was that Joe was a typical GOP carny barker. Earlier this week, Joe lamented his [symbolic] Clinton impeachment furor.

The Gingrich revolution was no less teabilly than the current circus.

I thought the joke was about dead interns.

This will be interesting to observe. I suspect you are right, but we will know in a day or two.
