I’m not clear on what the functional difference in the Senate is between a 52-48 minority and a 53-47 minority.
Assuming the filibuster stays for the next session (which i don’t think will happen, anyway) do you think we can count on Joe Manchin voting with Democrats to filibuster anything important , like a Supreme Court nominee, or a 20 week abortion ban?

I don’t think it was the final straw, but I think it accelerated their plans. The Republican Party, since Reagan, has become a continuation of the Confederacy and the Civil War. They are actively trying to destroy everything about the United States that makes us one country, and they are actively trying to define several different forms of second-class citizens (women, Muslims, minorities, the poor, etc.). They are undermining American democracy using the tools of democracy itself, and with the help of the American people they may very well succeed where their predecessors failed - the destruction and dissolution of the United States of America.

Those who voted for HO thinking coal jobs were coming back must know by now they are not - Perry as Sec. of Energy, Tillerson as Sec. of State (recommended by people like Condi Rice, who has an oil tanker named after her) and the EPA head from Oklahoma (now suffering from increasing fracking earthquakes) - HO is all in for oil and gas. I heard Rand Paul on NPR this morning saying that KY voted for HO because of his promises of coal jobs and lifting environmental regulations - the senior senator from KY is just happy his wife got picked to be in the cabinet. Not only is coal not going to have a renaissance, but when environmental regulations are gutted these deluded voters are going to have a toxic mess in their backyards as the mining companies cut corners more trying to be competitive. (off topic: when I read The Handmaid’s Tale long ago I thought it could never happen, not anymore)
