That says more about the people of West Virginia than Senator Warren.
I don’t agree. She is very authentic and genuine. That plays well EVERYWHERE.
Manchin doesn’t think city people get up early and work hard? Why are rural Americans always cast as real Americans?
A Warren presidency would be extremely beneficial to the people of WV and other states whose workers and industries justifiably need assistance adapting to the 21st century economy. She would make sure of it.
I think any Democrat is DOA in West Virginia right now, so if Manchin wants to say stuff to shore up his support in-state, whatever. That said, if it’s purely for local consumption (which I believe it is), national outlets should think about ignoring it.
This is just Manchin tending to perceptions his Fox News-watching, super-misogynistic back yard. He knows that no Democrat gives a crap about West Virginia’s electoral votes. He must also know that Warren’s policies, if not her profile, would actually be great for his state, so it’s a pity that he feels obliged to say this stuff.
West Virginia has been written off by most democrats, they can’t even count on Joe Manchin as he has to pander to the gun and snake worshiper of his state.
I love how this nitwit parrots the GOP line here. And frankly–the MSM line on her. She’s made a couple of missteps (unforced errors) but at core she’s dead straight on helping the middle class and the poor and that’s essentially all WVA has left. It’s hard to pick the most disappointing Dem in the Senate as there are so many but Joe is certainly up there on my least favorite list.
Wrong answer. How about, Warren’s efforts on behalf of everyday people need to be better understood and appreciated in WV. She should come visit to communicate her vision.
I don’t think she capable of speaking in tongues…
I’ve seen endless coverage of Warren this last week - but oddly very few clips of her actually speaking. Or what her message is.
The media is, perhaps, really the enemy of the people…
Waste of time. The 2020 race will be decided in only three states, which Dems must flip: Ohio, Michigan, PA. If we lose any of those states, we’re toast. (Unless by some long shot we win AZ or FL.)
I frequently find myself frustrated with Joe Manchin, but in a value-over-replacement-candidate sense, he’s pretty great. I think quite positively of Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris, but there aren’t enough hands in this room to count the number of potential Democratic politicians who could win and hold a California Senate seat. I’m not sure there’s anybody else who could keep a WV Senate seat blue, even this annoying, tepid shade of blue.
Sorry Joe, ANY woman would have a hard time in WV.
It seems to be that way all over Appalachia.
When I retired I moved to East TN to be closer to my children. When my daughter retired from the Coast Guard she moved into the area. The plan was she would live with me until I finished building my home and could devote time to build one for her. As plans are want to do, things changed, and she continues to live with me. Being in her 40s she is interested in finding a partner so we both were surprised about the results of her first few dates. It was (1) the guy quitting his job and assuming he would be taken care of by her, this after the 1st date. (2) another guy showing up at the door with a U-Haul filled with his junk expecting to move in, that was if I recall the 2nd date. After that she asked around and was informed that many men believed they need not work as it was the woman’s job to provide all. Needless to say, she doesn’t date much.
National outlets should ignore Manchin. He represents one of the most backward, federal teat sucking states in the Union. F him and F West Verginia.
Exactly - he’s far better than the rabid right wing loon that would take his place.
Fun fact. More coal plants have closed in the first 2 years of Trump’s administration than in the first 4 years of the Obama administration. Don’t tell Joe or anybody else in West Virginia. The coal industry just can’t compete with natural gas, wind and solar.
I think Liz would do fine in blue states. The question is can the Democrats grab a red state or two?
This is very definition of RealPolitik…
Joe Manchin would have a hard time in California. So f’in what?
