Discussion: Jimmy Carter Teaches Sunday School Hours After Grandson's Death

Discussion for article #244002

If I possessed 1/1000 of his style and grace I would be a truly remarkable human being.

Is this the same young man who did the nation a big favor a few years back and pointed everyone to the taping of Mitt Romney and his wealthy poor people-hating 47-percenters?

I do not pray to a deity, but I do send out my thoughts to the universe at-large. President Carter, sir, you and your family will be in my thoughts over this Holiday Season. Peace and comfort be with you.

I admire Jimmy Carter. Perhaps he wasn’t the greatest President we ever had but his post-presidency work has been amazing. A true child of God!

If all Christians possessed his qualities I’d be completely awestruck by them. What a truly decent man.

The definition of a Christian…President Jimmy Crater.

That was another grandson, James.

Thanks, tiowally. Just as sad, nonetheless. :persevere:

He wasn’t the worst President, that’s for sure. His Presidency looks better and better as time rolls on. History will be kind to that man.

I agree, he will go down in history as visionary. If the country had implemented his policies we would be at least 25 years ahead on energy efficiency and renewables. He understood the link between national security and energy self-sufficiency. He understood the national security danger of American companies causing wealth inequality in other countries. He had, in hindsight, practical and effective solutions that would have made the US a world leader in many areas it now lags.

Amen to that. Gee that’s tiough for the family

And the republicans demonized him from day one as they did to Clinton and Obama and as they will do to Hillary. Elections don’t mean anything to republicans unless they win. This party is replete with disgusting people and it always has

Is this the grandson that gifted the world with that 47% Romney mixtape? My heart goes out to President Carter.

Think about checking your spelling?

Not really. It was the entire establishment, including NYT, WaPo, and plenty of congressional Dems. He was belittled from the get-go. Painful to live through and infuriating to recall.

I was so sad to hear of his grandsons passing. My deepest condolences to his family.

We also owe this young man a debt of gratitude for getting Romney’s 47% comment out too.

If only American Christians based their Christianity on Carter’s example, rather than Ayn Rand’s, this country would be a much better place.

I had the honor of meeting President Carter very briefly in 1989, when he spoke at the Kennedy School of Government. It was spontaneous, without an introduction by an intermediary: he saw me, extended his hand, I introduced myself, we shook hands, and exchanged a few words, as if he were just an ordinary person. He gave me a famous Jimmy Carter smile, turned, and walked away. President Carter carries with him a sense of serenity, and goodness, and profound wisdom that literally screens out whatever else is going on: we were in a bustling, crowded place, but it was as if a Cone of Silence had come down around us. I will remember those few seconds always. His noble comportment in confronting cancer, and his grace in teaching Sunday school just hours after a personal tragedy come as no surprise.

Ayn Rand was a militantly avowed atheist. I agree with your sentiment, however.
