Discussion: Jeff Flake: Kavanaugh, Blasey Ford 'Not Props For Us To Make Political Points'

It’s not quite a “no” yet, but it is a small step in the right direction.

You have no further need for political points Jeff, so do the right thing.

these unwitting combatants in an undeclared war, they’re not props for us to make political points nor are they to be demolished like Anita Hill

They?

I wonder if it’s sunk in yet that all his careful wording and statements regarding trump won’t dampen the stench of being part of this GOP Congress. I hope the total loss of dignity both public and private is worth the money to screw over everyone else.

Nah, it’s really not. The next substantive action, as opposed to a very furrowed brow, that Flake takes in opposition to Dear Leader or the Republican leadership will be his first and I’d be flabbergasted if it ever comes. Flake, like Corker or Sasse, are all in on the extreme right wing policy goals of the Republican Party and the Goniff-in-Chief, they just would like a Drumpf with a little bit more country club decorum.

My sense is that he is trying to avoid blame when he votes to confirm.

Yes, it seems that a few of the GOPers have been aware of the Trump-stench, which does indicate a fatal infection.

While sharing the far right policies with much more clarity than Trump, they seem to be aware of the danger he poses for the movement and the party.

They hope to send up some warning flares and bail out, keeping themselves untainted. They hope to look like geniuses after Trump is finally gone.

Yeah, that too.

There’s a struggle for cover when you know that your position stinks. Hypocrites.

You may be right. They have 51 so we need at least 2 on their side to sink this nomination.

Flakey, baby, if you are going to talk the talk, you had fucking better walk the walk…

He’s a professional hand-wringer who only empathizes/opposes on tv. In reality he is a hard-rightwing Mormon moralist who wants to ban abortion and make the rich richer and votes >85% for the Trump Legislative Agenda. He is likely to vote FOR BK.

Oh, fuck Flake!
I’m sorry. I’ve tried to be reasonable and fair and tried to keep my profanity to a minimum, but this worthless POS deserves no respect whatsoever. He is nothing but Susan Collins with a Mario Brothers mushroom penis.

We may get him. He’s clearly keeping open his avenues of retreat, and I anticipate that the hearing is going to be more of a backfiring debacle for the GOP than even my wanton crassness can fully describe. I’d have to invent new words.

Maybe. If you compare his remarks to, say for example, Lindsey Graham, Flake is leaving himself some wiggle room if he wants to vote no or abstain.

Since Flake is on the Judiciary committee he can save the GOP a lot of embarrassment… simply vote NO in committee. Grassley and McConnell will of course attempt the “we need an Up or Down” vote in the full senate. If Flake has any balls he won’t fall for it and will kill Kavanaugh in Committee

What better way to make an honorable exit from the Senate, than a heartfelt NO, Senator Flake?

Go mavericky just once…

If history is any indication, in the end Flake will flake.

Hey, Jeff! Why don’t you go ask Lindsey Graham if you can borrow his Fainting Divan and ask Sarah Huckabee Sanders if you can borrow her Clutching Pearls.

Even a simple abstention does the trick at the committee level…

Of course he will. He has more flakes than a box of Raisin Bran.
