Discussion for article #245855
I wish Obama could run for a third term, but embracing Hillary’s candidacy is a good consolation to that.
“I think the President has signaled, while still remaining neutral, that he supports Secretary Clinton’s candidacy and would prefer to see her as the nominee,” Carney said in an interview with CNN. "He won’t officially embrace her unless and until it’s clear she is going to be the nominee.
Thinking how someone feels is not the same as saying he does Why does TPM do this. Oh never mind….
“I think the President has signaled, while still remaining neutral,”
When I’m driving, I like to signal for a right turn and keep going straight.
I think Obama’s judgment has been excellent and I credit him in helping to heal and ease my progression from being a Hillary antagonist in 2008 to a supporter of her this time. She is not distancing herself from his administration. I now see her as the natural continuance of it.
“He won’t officially embrace her unless and until it’s clear she is going to be the nominee.”
For better or worse, he just did.
Edit: See what happens when you only skim the story before posting? You end up sounding like an idiot.
If you were Obama, wouldn’t you want the Democrats to pick a candidate who (1) can win nationwide, and (2) would keep and build on your accomplishments?
I know Obama’s doing the usual of a sitting President in pretending he’ll stay neutral until a candidate is selected. But he’s gotta be hoping with every breath of his being that national Democrats are wise enough to pick Clinton.
Even Bernie said in his New Hampshire speech that he hopes that all Democrats will come together to support whomever the nominee is.
Obama is a decent man, I don’t wish that on him or his family…
no kidding…
this thread is going to devolve quickly…
Thinking how someone feels is not the same as saying he does Why does TPM do this?
More to the point, why is Jay Carney and CNN doing this? Do they just enjoy stirring the pot and mucking up the President’s role in this? I suggest that Carney and CNN let President Obama speak for himself inthis matter.
Except those were Carney’s words - not Obama’s
I could not agree more and why is TPM twisting his words. I would be willing to bet Obama never confided in Carney
Both Obamas want out of the political spotlight, if not forever, at least for a period of time to have their lives back. But somewhere in rightwing nutjob world, people are speaking of the conspiracy underway to allow him to run or seize power for a third term
Has anyone else heard anything about a draft Biden effort by Dem donors in the last week?
…Former Press secretary…
Where is Carney working these days?
Maybe so but he also knows she has flaws as a candidate because he beat her in 2008
for the Clinton foundation…LOL
Clinton can’t win. Look at the New Hampshire cross tabs. She has no appeal to most people under 35 - the people whose showing up to vote or not makes the difference between whether Dems or Republicans win. Clinton getting the nomination leads as most likely outcome to the first truly fascist American government.
Look, I’ll vote for her in the general if she makes it that far. But I’ll also have plans in place to leave the country soon after the nearly inevitable Republican victory if my fellow Democrats are stupid enough to make her the nominee.
You’re right, and it’s selfish as hell, but I desperately wish he could run for a third term. I have no doubt at all he’d absolutely destroy whomever the GOP put up, especially out of this pack of crazy, crass, confused, and craven. I’d pick HRC over Sanders, hands down and no questions asked. But I’d slam dunk on HRC all day long for the chance to vote for Obama again.
