Discussion: Jay Carney On US-Taliban Deal: Bowe Bergdahl 'Was Not A Hostage'

Discussion for article #223396

I think if Obama cured cancer tomorrow, the media would give him shit about putting radiologists out of business.

The very same fuckers who have been screaming endlessly about the loss of American lives in Benghazi and on VA waiting lists are now bitching that we actually brought an American solider home rather than letting him die a horrible death thousands of miles away.

“Here’s what matters. He was a prisoner in an armed conflict, a member of the military, and in that situation the United States does not leave its men and women behind,” Carney replied.

So go Cheney yourselves…

If I had already announced, like Carney, that I were quitting my job, I might have said something like this: “Look, let’s get real. The Taliban are intensely unpleasant people but they aren’t international terrorists. Second, everyone negotiates with everyone even if they say they don’t. Ever heard of a place called Israel? Third, these currently whining Republicans already scuttled a deal to bring this kid home. They’d have let an American soldier die of despair in some cave in Pakistan. So, in short, fuck you all and let’s move on to the next question.”

I guess that’s why it’s unlikely I’ll ever be the White House press secretary. But if he said it I would stand in line to buy him a beer.

The MSM have become loathsome assassins of joy.

The man was a deserter. Anyone who calls in him a hero is dead wrong. When Bowe is healthy he should be tried and locked up.

I don’t think the US would have bought him back in exchange for 5 detainees if they felt that was the case. I think there is way more to this than we will ever know and going by Pres. Obama’s history of trying to get all the facts, weighing them considerably and then making a move, I trust his judgement more than your kneejerk right wing talking points.

There are at least two versions of how he came to be separated from his unit. One is that he was lagging behind his platoon on a march and the other is that was snatched from a latrine, and in neither version is he called a deserter. He is first and last an American deserving of rescue.

Well in republican world dark people in a war with America are terrorists----especially if you are in THEIR country.

Of course, spectacularly armed overweight angry white guys constantly threatening the president in this country— are patriots.

And you know this how, exactly? I mean, other than the conflicting reports - the upshot of which is: no one yet knows what the actual circumstances were.

And when was the last time the US Army promoted a deserter to sergeant? Because that’s what they did to/for Bergdahl while he was in Taliban hands.

from Hagel “Our first priority is assuring his well-being and his health and getting him reunited with his family,” Other circumstances that may develop and questions, those will be dealt with later." Bergdahl’s former squad leader, “I believe that an investigation should take place as soon as healthcare professionals deem him fit to endure one.” Seems like at least something very very fishy took place.

Hmmmmmmm, muddying an American soldier who has been a POW for five years because a democrat was in office when he was freed . . . . .How very republican of you. Way to go supporting the troops sofa warrior.

Wish I could heart your comment a thousand times…

I actually saw someone bring up Amb Stevens and ask why he was not helped while reading responses to something Susan Rice posted on Twitter. I guess since the four Americans died, NO ONE else should be helped or saved from here out. Because Benghazi.

These people really don’t care about anything but bringing Pres. Obama down. That’s it. Normally people would be celebrating a release of a prisoner but because Obama was involved in the release, it’s all bad. And of course the “liberal” media plasys right along.

Good attempted walk-back. Instead, why not just go all in, and demand his execution?

Hey, if you know everything you need to know to make that judgment, why even bother with a trial? After all, the point of a trial is to determine disputed facts, and what with you having read something somewhere that confirms your biases, there aren’t any facts in dispute, are there?

How I am muddying when Chuck Hagel, his former squad leader and the majority of the guys he served with said he deserted or a least ackowledge that something fishy went on. Glad he is back home but people should not be calling him a hero and the real story needs to come out.

Huh? And from that you glean that he’s a deserter who should be bought up on charges? Are you serious?

Newsflash — OF COURSE they will still want to talk to this guy about everything that happened surrounding his capture. And yes they will do so when he’s back and well enough to answer cogently. The guy was in prison for 5 years! No telling what he endured, heard or saw during that time. That does not mean he was a deserter as you erroneously and haphazardly claim.

Hagel said he deserted or you are imagining that he said that and you feel its fishy
because . . . . . .Obama?

Wow. The sadness of the republican party has become overwhelming. Fishy, deserter, you heard
something in Hagel’s voice. OMG. The crazy is too much.

And who called him a hero? I’ve been following this and haven’t seen evidence of that. Let’s see a basis for that assertion before we assume you’re a troll.

TMM has the “real” story; no investigations are even needed. Hell, they don’t even need to talk to him. MM knows all that happened.
