Perhaps they can use the profits to upgrade their future cells?

Opportunity Zone sounds like the place these two want to be. Some people can never have enough money. Got millions?

As a poor working schlump I’ve never been able to figure that out
Any one of us could retire exotically on what they make in a year , yet they need more more more.
If Manafort had banked or invested his ill gotten gains and just stopped , he could be leading a quiet Grandpa existence , but like the rest the greed got him
Ostrich Jackets?why not I’m rich

It’s obvious enough why the Rump children are on board. They’re turning the whole country into Orange Beach, Alabama: a never-ending chain of luxury high-rise condos, which exist to launder money and reduce the tax bills of people who declare residency, at the expense of folks who earn money and live there.

It’s called practicing hegemony. One can’t leave a dynasty without unfathomable wealth. Just ask the Rockefellers, the Morgans, the Carnegies, the etc…

These people are fine with MBS executing the men who followed his orders. Also, now they see all the money to be made in defense contracting. They are going to be taking from the government for decades.

These ‘people’ don’t seem to realize the shitstorm headed their way. As white collar criminals they’ve never faced a reckoning.

Not even their pal Putin will want them.

Not too early to start thinking about your 2020 run for office, folks.

How is any of this not what happened/happens to predominately black communities in the past. They come in and “gentrify” a building, which raised the values of surrounding buildings, which they get bought up and gentrified, and all the while the economically challenged get pushed out because they can’t afford to live there anymore?

Only surprise here is they are Trump folks and they are doing something profitable!

They are certainly not the only ones profiting - just ask Senator Corker.

Despite all the rampant stupidity and chaos since Trump has been elected, if you stand back and throw out all of the distractions, there is not single thing that has happened that cannot be explained by money. Flynn - money. Cohen - money. Manafort - money. Kushner - money. Pruitt - money. Mulvaney - money. Zinke - money. Republican tax reform - money.

Money money money money money money. This is so embedded in American politics that sometimes we fail to see it, like fish in an aquarium do not see the water. With a few extremely rare and notable exceptions, most of the people who run for federal office are millionaires. If they weren’t when they got elected, they almost invariably are when they leave office. They spend the majority of their time in office dialing for dollars. When it comes time to legislate, money is the dominant issue. SCOTUS made it official by equating money with speech. Imagine - the first amendment is all about freedom of money.

Money.

sending the working poor to the streets the trump way…this is just another “redevelopment” grift…

Tempest in a Teapot Dome

First I’ve heard of “Opportunity Zones” so I checked to see if there are any in Detroit. Now normally I’d cut a lot of slack for programs such as this. Sure, rich folks get richer, but if it helps improve a beat-up area I can live with that. But in Detroit at least, all but a couple of the many Opportunity Zones are located in places already slated for upscale development. They’re subsidizing waterfront development, the corridor (upscale areas such as Boston Edison and New Center), the already heavily redeveloped downtown, Corktown (where homes already sell for $1M), and the Dearborn Heights area (another high-priced, and already nice area around a U of M campus and park). With the exception of Highland Park (not technically Detroit, but in Detroit) and possibly some redevelopment in Southwest Detroit, every neighborhood here that needs help has been omitted.

Their greed knows no bounds.

The difference is that now they get a big chunk of taxpayers’ money for doing what would have been profitable anyway. I particularly like

While the Opportunity Zone program mostly targets census tracts of high
poverty and unemployment, it also allows “contiguous” tracts that might
not be low-income, but are close enough to deprived communities to be
eligible.

So since midtown manhattan is kinda close to Hell’s Kitchen…

(Yes, I know Hell’s Kitchen is now hot. But a really good example would have required updated knowledge of neighborhood that’s too complex for me)

I suppose it’s irony, but if Trump had not been elected to the presidency on a fluke, his crime family would still be operating with relative impunity in the greater NYC area. They would still be protecting themselves with civil suits and counter suits and bribes.
