Discussion: Jane Sanders Expresses Concern Over Closed New York Primary: It's 'Silly'

Tough shit Jane.

Did you know independent candidates can set their own nomination rules?

Sounds more and more like Trump each and every passing day.

Oh, gee, Jane dear. Anything else you want to bitch about? How about a candidate who wants to use the Democratic Party apparatus for his own political ambitions while denying he is a Democrat and deriding Democrats any chance he can get, while his surrogates call us Democratic voters “whores”? You wanna bitch about that, too, honey?
And your husband doesn’t get to dictate the rules. The rules have been around long before your hubby decided to use the Democratic Party as his own personal “whore”.

Actually, I’m in favor of closed primaries, because I believe parties should select their own candidates.

I don’t like spoilers from the other party jumping over to vote for the candidate they think would be easiest to beat. And I also don’t like occasional voters who never bother to register for a party but take a whim every now and again that they want to vote in a primary.

General elections should be as simple as possible to register for and to vote in. Primaries, though, are for partisans.

(Also, I’m really getting tired of Sanders, his wife, and all his fans with their almost endless whining routine.)

“Silly” is thinking that POTUS can change the way private organizations choose to nominate candidates for elected office.

Is Bernie gonna change the way Libertarians and Greens nominate too? What about how the “Rent is Too Damn High” Party?

Stooooopid comment.

If her husband was elected, which he won’t be, he would not be in a position to change primary rules in any state.

It must be tough having the whole world against you at all times.

I appreciate this overall sentiment, but would tone down the rhetoric about 100 levels. Sanders is a very, very, very, good progressive and an excellent ally of the democratic party inside the senate. As ignorant and misguided as Jane Sander’s comments are, we might wanna ratchet back the ad hominem.

I noticed fundamentally undemocratic caucuses strangely absent from list of concerns about the Primary System.

She does know this is a PRIMARY, right? For a the DEMOCRATIC PARTY? Good grief. The whining – it burns!

I thought the Bern campaign would wait until the end of April to complain about closed primaries. The Bern campaign complains about every aspect of the process that does not benefit Bern.

After being called a “whore” by the Sanders campaign, I make no promises. All bets are off. And how come it’s only Clinton supporters who are supposed to “ratchet back” our criticisms, while Saint Bernie’s campaign can say whatever the fuck they want and Mr. Purity never makes a real apology for their rhetoric?
And if Mrs. Sanders does not understand national politics, perhaps Mrs. Sanders should not be giving interviews on national TV.

“…noting that her husband would change the system if he won the presidency.”

(in truth, I feel this way a lot of times when Sanders and his surrogates speak)

To my knowledge, no self proclaimed “populist” candidate has ever lost because they admittedly were a small minority of the electorate and unable to turn out the numbers needed to win the election. They only lose because the “system” was rigged against them. Every time. It’s uncanny.

Yeah, but what do we know about real persecution? After all, I’m nothing but a widdle “Democratic whore”.

Yep. As with dogmatic conservatism, Purity never fails progressives – progressives only fail Purity.

The system is fine and has been for years. The current setup actually has helped sanders. Can’t wait for this to be over

Little Democratic whore? Let’s not sell ourselves short. I consider myself a tremendous Democratic whore.
