Raskin is a great candidate. Spending a fraction of what Trone spent, he won handily.
BTW, we’re not a Democratic “leaning” district, we’re very Democratic. This is a blue blue region of a blue state. He’ll win the general election without a doubt.
Nice to see a decent candidate winning plus the added bonus of seeing Mrs. Tweety Matthews losing!
Yes, it is always encouraging and uplifting when a genuinely excellent individual chooses to run and then WINS! Senator Raskin promises to be a superb Congressman with a very, very bright future. Senator Cardin will not be there forever. A big MAZEL TOV to Senator Raskin!
I’ve been following Raskin for the past 20 odd years since he was always quoted regarding legal issues or SCOTUS. I would guess he gets a seat on Judiciary. A debate vs. lost cause Trey Gowdy would be illuminating.
I am a Northern Virginia voter who was pulling for Kathleen Matthews. I enjoyed her a whole lot more on TV than I ever did her husband. I am thankful, though, that Maryland Democrats elected a very qualified candidate.
What happens to Donna Edwards now? The thought must at least occur to the popular telegenic Congresswoman that if she ran as 3rd party candidate to win “back” the seat she is vacating, she will have a real shot. She just was running against a juggernaut.
BTW I am also sad for Kathleen Matthews and simultaneously happy for Raskin (and the state and USA).
Raskin was a shoe-in as Maryland voters wanted experience and I’m sure that feeling was even stronger in the 8th with so many federal employees.
This is good news!
No shortage of great (D) candidates : )
Actually, Edwards wasn’t very popular, even in her own District, where - as this morning’s Washington Post pointed out - she had a reputation for terrible constituent services. Politically, she was a hard line left wing politician who didnt listen to anyone and couldnt work with anyone. For several terms, I was in her District. While I voted for her, I thought she was both arrogant and willfully ignorant; on several occaisions I called her office just begging her to follow Obama’s lead, which was the last thing she had any interest in doing.
Kathleen Matthews is a saint! She’s spent the last 35-40 years with some clown screaming and talking over her. Seriously, I actually like her quite a lot.
That’s funny because your boy calls her a saint and his queen. I didn’t even know his wife was running for anything .
That’s actually one of the things I’ve always liked about Matthews. He’s so clearly in love with his wife and has so much respect and admiration for her. But any woman who puts up with him day in and day out has to be a saint.
I grew up with Kathleen Matthews on my TV, I did not realize until last month they were related – I think pretty well of her based on what she showed on-air, and I liked her policy positions. I’m glad Raskin was such a good choice, but a little part of me was pulling for the woman from my childhood to win.
I totally agree that he definitely loves his wife. I’d have a lot more respect for him if he were a man of his convictions. I do have a problem with his waffling depending on who his guests are unless he has real disdain for a guest then he goes after them.
Why don’t you ask my son about how he feels about Tweety? Sorry, you can’t talk to him–he was killed in Iraq…
I am truly sorry for your loss, but blaming Chris Matthews is a bit too far. How about blaming George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and the rest of the war mongerers.
Now it makes sense why he as so conspicuously absent from the MSNBC coverage of the primaries last night
