I just heard Republican strategists (female, admittedly) say that ivanka Trump had no business being on the featured panel of the Womenâs Summit. Everyone else on the stage had a history of accomplishments on womenâs issues and Ivanka appeared as a token family member. I get why Donald sent her (He doesnât have anyone to represent him positively.) but her own cluelessness about her role and importance is astounding.
Not surprised this is how Ms. Trump plays on the world stage. I suspect her father will fare even worse.
The only surprise in all of this is that Angela Merkel invited Ivanka to this Summit. Then again, politics makes strange bedfellows. It might be easier for Merkel to cozy up to the plastic dolly daughter than the truly odious father.

YesâŚbut she violated one of the core points that Oliver was making about her at this summit. Instead of just offering up empty platitudes that say nothingâŚthus allowing people to project whatever they want to see upo herâŚshe tried to argue an actual point.
Not deeply, mind you, because she has been well schooled to avoid ever going deeply into any topic. But she got too close to the line by saying. âHeâs been a tremendous champion of supporting families and enabling them to thrive in the new reality ofââ.
Its still a throw away phrase. But saying a thrice divorced man who publicly said he can grab any womanâs pussyâŚand had dozens of women accuse of him just that is a champion of supporting families is just too specific.
And yeah, I will go there. Remember, he has essentially banished/ignored his younger daughter until it became politically expedient to recognize her for the campaign. And part of the reason, no doubt, is that Tiffany would have made Ivanka jealous of her âvery special relationshipâ with Daddy,and he canât have that. And I go there because numerous times (including in one example in the John Oliver piece) the man quite publicly shows that he equates Ivanka with sex.
