Discussion: 'It's A Giant Clusterf*ck': Virginia Dems Shaken By Trio Of Scandals

Disagree. It’s what they do, and have done, and will continue to do. No amount of failing will stop them. They saw the writing on the wall forty years ago and they are in for the duration, until they cease to exist.

That old line of “content of their characters” is so much old, tired thought for many today. Today, the entire deal is the “color of their skins”. That’s what Identity Politics is all about - you get cred if you are the right color, the right gender, the right sexual orientation. Not because of what you think, but because of what you are.

And that’s not good.

Ergo, don’t reward their ratfucking with defanging yourself.

Instead, light them up.

So would Bill Clinton and that wasn’t nearly so long ago.

Nowadays most Democrats would have also voted to impeach.

You’re correct. This is why I loathe identity politics.

Especially when most “identity” is not a matter of merit, choice, or decency.

It’s effectively a dismissal of the uniqueness of the individual. You are the group, and the group is you. Fuck that shit.

You know why I don’t do that 23 and Me DNA shit?

Two reasons:

  1. I don’t want my fucking DNA on file;

and

  1. who my ancestors were and where they came from is immaterial to my existence. I just don’t give a shit.

Oh by the way I’m living proof that white men can in fact jump.

I’m coming to the conclusion that it would be best for the people of VA if no one resigns. We’re going to get hit all through this election cycle by the GOP trolling us because we care about these issues. We can’t hurt the people of VA, especially those who just gained access to medicaid by letting the GOP control the governor’s mansion or the legislative process. That matters more to me.

On legal terms, neither Northam nor Herring committed a crime. They were dumb racist shit heads 3 decades ago.

On legal terms, Fairfax committed a crime if what Dr. Tyson says is true. It is not a crime if what Fairfax says is true. That’s really big gap. It truly is a he said/she said situation. It isn’t like the Kavanaugh situation where there’s a PJ/Squi/creepy guy in a hockey jersey taking creeper videos, a calendar, and loads of corroborating accounts. The issue of whether consent was given and then withdrawn is a complicated legal issue. She’s not planning to pursue any legal action based on this. She said she’s not going to comment further. She’s leaving this out there for Fairfax to deal with. It’s a bad legal and political standard to resign over it absent a trial that gives us a clearer picture of things.

We’ve got to focus on the GOP and our policies. We’ve expressed our opinion as a party. But they should not resign.

Yep. Those darn Republicans forced those Democrats to put on black face and rape a woman. You can’t hold the Democrats accountable for their own actions.

Endless issues. Child’s play to program for.

Or against.

Holding people accountable for actual actions is fine. What is an appropriate response should be determined by judgment of specifics in each case, and not zero tolerance and simply lumping all offenses into one bucket. This seems like such a basic concept that I simply cannot understand why it have to repeat and defend it.

Thank you for putting into words what I could not.

That’s basically my argument, minus the gratuitous vulgarity and dripping sarcasm.

Well put.

Or if they’re just lying or conveniently recalling something with super-curious timing.

Why are we surprised that a douchebag rightwing troll names himself after a Mel Gibson movie?

It would be more accurate to say things went amok for white male Democrats today; the women are just fine, thank you.

Yup. Baseline standard should be lie-detector tests and a hearing in the VA Senate, for both.

And maybe establish that as the criteria going forward. No more railroading people without a reasonable chance to defend themselves in front of impartial witnesses and undergoing cross-examination of the claims.

Ford provided an excellent example of that, even though the Republicans then just promptly ignored her and claimed the impossible (that they believed she was telling the truth, but somehow accidentally misidentifying the perpetrator even though she was “100%” sure).

I agree, and I’d be careful waving “scandal” around. I look at what’s going on in the Trump administration and don’t want to dilute the word here for the actual clusterf*ck of scandals involving this president, his administration, and anyone connected to him. Scandal with a capital S.

The only one who could be in real trouble is Fairfax, but it’s impossible to make any judgement about that right now.
