Okay, a fair enough observation. I will qualify that as too many of us seem intent on helping them. (Unfortunately, with close margins, these numbers matter. There is also this strange phenomenon of ganging up on the wounded target, as if it somehow inoculates everyone else against the charge. I begin to think of the horror move “Cabin Fever,” which certainly included some elements of social commentary in its plot.)

“Yeah, so?” would be the most likely response.

And that would be the point of those exercises. If nobody is clean at the top, then you don’t require mass resignations, you go into the next election cycle with them (or ideally call early elections, if that’s even an option).

Basically, Dems need to stop unilaterally disarming themselves, especially when we know there are all sorts of skeletons hanging around in Republican closets (and out in the open).

I’m damned depressed that so many high-level Virginia Democrats have so damn many ugly skeletons in their closets. How those skeletons have been revealed isn’t that important to me (with the slight exception of the AG getting out in front of his story).

That’s because they are in fact normal human beings. Every single person in the world has things that they do not want to have put out in public. Even Jesus Christ did stuff that we might find … inappropriate.

And there are plenty of current examples and further evidence in their actual actions, now and in the immediate term. Their actual actions, and the tangible harm they cause should outweigh other considerations.

I don’t see how Herrings transgression reaches the level of the other two. He was younger, his explanation seems much more plausible. But unfortunately, Republicans have effectively figured out how to weaponize the Democrats sanctimony against them.

Primarily because he came out saying that it disqualified Northam that he had been in blackface. If by his own accounting that was enough to make Northam resign, then by what basis does Herrings stay in office, having done the same thing.
